Current Affairs How do we tackle terrorism?

This is nonsense - it's the role of the government of the day to inform the population of possible threats. If a Prime Minister decided not to warn the population of a heightened security risk, despite having clear intelligence that an attack was imminent, and then, god forbid, that attack did take place, the government would have blood on their hands.
Exactly they have to be seen acting. If they don't the consequences don't bare thinking about. I'd rather they act then do nothing.

Ah the good old Britania at fault for the world's problems line. No wonder Europe is in the dire straits that it is when we've gone along with this false assumption for so long.

Effectively you can't stop this in a modern liberal society, stopping this completely would be to effectively outlaw Islam and it's practise/literature in the country and a ban on migrants from Middle Eastern countries. Effectively Islam would die out over the generations.

In reality in our society the best we could do I would imagine is:

1. Anyone on the suspected terror list or who has links to extremism to be deported or apprehended before it goes too far.

2. Put these Muslim prison gangs in isolation units to stop the radicalisation going on that's rife in our prison system.

3. Initiate some form of compulsory cultural integration programmes with the Muslim communities in the likes of Luton, Bradford etc. Which is difficult and I don't know how it could be done but their needs to be more integration so these fundamental issues are not allowed to fester in those vulnerable to be radicalised.

I've genuinely no idea what the best policy is to help this problem. But what I would say is that the rights of a few mental radicalised individuals certainly do not trump the rights of society as a whole. I'd rather wrongly lock a couple of people up for a couple of weeks than be timid and risk a massacre. But as I say, I don't know really what's the best policy. Just don't want this to become the norm :(

No arguments, but the question is at where do you draw the line, your not talking about locking up for weeks mate, your talking years and more.

People on here been saying that the Muslim community needs to stop these people themselves - and yeah maybe they do.

But exactly the same thing could be said about the population of the Uk which blindly accepts us bombing the living crap out of women and children on lies and for corporate interests.

We're in danger of moving back to a Reagan era of absolutes - the good guys vs the bad guys.

In danger, I'd say we already are there mate, at least in terms of Governments

Seen some absolutely amazing things today about what normal people have done to help, restores faith - only for that to be swamped by a wave of utter crap spouted by people like Hopkins etc and for people who think its 'bantz' to joke about it and make up fake missing person posts on social media...

As a race, mankind's well and truly the lowest ebb it's ever been

Thats not the point though mate, your suggesting the scrapping of basic democratic rights for people, giving the Government the right to imprison indefinitely without charge or proof anyone they deem worthy of doing so too.

Your stepping right down the road towards a Dictatorship right there

No, we did it in WW2, no dictatorship, just looking after our people.......as any government should do......

I think the line comes at anyone preaching what is clearly violence. Freedom of speech is a privilege in this country but the minute you start advocating physical threat against other groups or individuals, then you should lose your freedom and be locked up. You have freedom to speak out against others, freedom to oppose, freedom even to insult and be derogatory (obviously not pleasant or desired but not criminal), but absolutely not the right to encourage or invite violence.

It's a bit harder for Islam to reform though as the Quran is the word of god. A bit harder for a religion to reform from that.

Islam is fascinating and bewildering as early Islam embraced science much more than Christianity of the time. It's gone backwards

Completely agree apart from the last sentence.

Islam was miles ahead of Christianity for centuries, Cordoba was the most beautiful city in Europe whilst Paris and London were still filthy hovels, Muslim scholars made advances in the arts and sciences whilst most of Europe was still in a 'dark age'. They had a chance at a 'renaissance' but those who viewed the Quran as the verbatim word of God rather than allegorical tales and lessons won, and the rest is history. Wouldn't personally say it went backwards, it just got stunted and never recovered, with the west eventually overtaking the Muslim world.

One of Islam's biggest problems is that it's political and theological aspects cannot be separated, which leads to all sorts of problems. Muslim countries that try to move towards a more modern and secular way of doing things will always be plagued by groups who will oppose it, violently if necessary.
