It's a bit harder for Islam to reform though as the Quran is the word of god. A bit harder for a religion to reform from that.
Islam is fascinating and bewildering as early Islam embraced science much more than Christianity of the time. It's gone backwards
Completely agree apart from the last sentence.
Islam was miles ahead of Christianity for centuries, Cordoba was the most beautiful city in Europe whilst Paris and London were still filthy hovels, Muslim scholars made advances in the arts and sciences whilst most of Europe was still in a 'dark age'. They had a chance at a 'renaissance' but those who viewed the Quran as the verbatim word of God rather than allegorical tales and lessons won, and the rest is history. Wouldn't personally say it went backwards, it just got stunted and never recovered, with the west eventually overtaking the Muslim world.
One of Islam's biggest problems is that it's political and theological aspects cannot be separated, which leads to all sorts of problems. Muslim countries that try to move towards a more modern and secular way of doing things will always be plagued by groups who will oppose it, violently if necessary.
