Current Affairs How do we tackle terrorism?

All very nice in theory mate, but you have an opinion and trust in the government which is not born out by actual facts

Without delving you sound very much like former or current armed forces mate

Yup, seems literally incapable of looking at it from any other view other than us vs them, good vs evil.

Which is of course exactly what they want.

Over 300 killed in Beslan, 186 of them Children

It ignores the theory too that one of the key causes of the fall of the Soviet union was the impact of Russian involvement in places like Afghanistan and the horror and corruption that people took home with them.

I realise my earlier attempt to articulate my feelings and anger.

So here's the Prime Minister telling us there may be more threats. For me that's telling the terrorists we know you're out there. I would rather they do their job quietly.

Forewarned is forearmed.

I've genuinely no idea what the best policy is to help this problem. But what I would say is that the rights of a few mental radicalised individuals certainly do not trump the rights of society as a whole. I'd rather wrongly lock a couple of people up for a couple of weeks than be timid and risk a massacre. But as I say, I don't know really what's the best policy. Just don't want this to become the norm :(

I didn't have the honour to serve in our armed forces, but I thank you for the compliment. I trust my government more than I trust ISIS or any other terrorist organisation......

You have absolutely no idea what your talking about if you think Russia hasn't experienced a huge amount of terrorist attacks and fatalities mate

I stand corrected and apologise x

Yes definitely. Someone has to go first though, so let's have some leadership

I agree mate, just thought it a bit strange that it was mosques that needed visiting, as opposed to the churches.
You're right though, if we don't 'know' each other, how can we get on?
Don't think it's as easy as that unfortunately.

As you know mate, I'm married to a Russian girl and live in Russia, one thing i can 100% guarantee is that Russians just accept and move on and if anything get more resolved after things like that. Utterly alien mentality that i am used too

We're in danger of moving back to a Reagan era of absolutes - the good guys vs the bad guys.

This is nonsense - it's the role of the government of the day to inform the population of possible threats. If a Prime Minister decided not to warn the population of a heightened security risk, despite having clear intelligence that an attack was imminent, and then, god forbid, that attack did take place, the government would have blood on their hands.

Thats not the point though mate, your suggesting the scrapping of basic democratic rights for people, giving the Government the right to imprison indefinitely without charge or proof anyone they deem worthy of doing so too.

Your stepping right down the road towards a Dictatorship right there
