They can under the anti terrorism act Neil.

Just can't hold them very long without proof.

Only 90% should be appalled? That's still not high enough!!!!!!

"In a series of questions on the terror threat in Britain, 4% said they sympathised with people who took part in suicide bombings (1% said they completely sympathised and 3% said they sympathised to some extent)" 4% might seem small but it's the equivalent to 100,000 UK Muslims.

Other concerning opinions from this recent-ish survey, .....not just terror related but other area's of incompatibility / lack of integration into the UK.

"52% said they disagreed".... with the legalisation of homosexuality. "Nearly a quarter (23%) supported the introduction of sharia law in some areas of Britain, and 39% agreed that “wives should always obey their husbands”, compared with 5% of the country as a whole. Two-thirds (66%) said they completely condemned people who took part in stoning adulterers, and a further 13% condemned them to some extent. Nearly a third (31%) thought it was acceptable for a British Muslim man to have more than one wife, compared with 8% of the wider population."

Ask the same question 30 years ago in Britain and you'd have gotten similar poll results about homosexuality in large parts of 'white Britain', 50 years ago it was illegal, still was until the 80's in Scotland.

As for the Wife results, 8% of non Muslims thought it was acceptable - with absolutely zero base in religion or culture for thinking so.

Results such as these need a context - and i will guarantee something, that the results would be far far more compatible with the general populace if they where asking 2nd/3rd generation Muslims, ofc a first generation Muslim would hold a lot of his own beliefs from his parent country still.

This is a war. During war you can remove suspected individuals and lock them up until they are either proven innocent or the war ends.......

I'll think you'll find that the likes of Bin Laden, snook in and took advantage of the general instability in Afghanistan, during the war with the Soviets mate.

Russia hasn't suffered as badly as the West at the hands of these nutters as they know the Soviets will hit them twice as hard for every atrocity committed against Soviet citizens.

It's a bit harder for Islam to reform though as the Quran is the word of god. A bit harder for a religion to reform from that.

Islam is fascinating and bewildering as early Islam embraced science much more than Christianity of the time. It's gone backwards

The Bible was once seen as the word of God amongst every Christian mate, people and religions naturally evolve, and amongst that evolution is often a step back for two step forwards...

I think that the extremists just like fighting, doesn't really matter what the cause is. It's like a hobby and gives a sense of purpose to their lives. What we need is a couple of dictators say one in Iraq and one in a country like Libya, they can then occupy and reduce the power base of the extremists and hopefully if we leave them alone they won't bother us too much.

how far do you go between liberty and security. sure locking people up on an island isnt ideal but what alternatives does the country have? we need clear honest discussions without the racism card being played. I'd sooner have a safe country rather than all known risks having liberty. maybe the the risk will be driven underground but what alternatives do we have? we need these discussions. it's fine for politicians playing the solidarity etc card but we never learn. how many attacks on the innocent need to happen before we have transparent talks amongst all of society

Fine, but we are not 400 years ago, and we can't afford for them to spend the next 400 years becoming civilised. At some point we have to do something, we will no doubt get it wrong, but doing nothing is getting us nowhere.......

and every time we try to do something the end result makes the situation even worse mate, thats the Paradox

and you trust the Government of the UK and US to remove people without charge or trial for effectively life imprisonment with no proof needed?

I'm sick of seeing the head of Islam U.K. Etc telling me that Islam is a religion of peace and these fools don't represent Islam and muslims. (All of which I'm sure are true).

What I want is that guy to tell me that if they suspect a immam of preaching hate, or if they suspect their child is being radicalised that they will report them to the police and force them to be removed from the mosque and community

A lot more confident in the people who have been shown to have jailed completely innocent people in Guantanamo and who framed Irish people than i do mate.

Problem with the various groups representing muslims are that they are the ones that the Government etc deem they want to represent and give them credence, often they are jot ones that the communities themselves identify with, and everyone wonders why they are useless...
