I posted this earlier in the year and I stand by every word of it, got nowhere near the Barca 1st team ( no great shame there) think it was Seville where again he hardly got a game and now at Everton he can't hold down a 1st team spot, my own feeling is he's just not good enough.
You can drew parallels with Manny Fenandez, had a couple of half decent games and people went completely overboard about him, to the point people on here were still saying we should sign him years after he left. I hope this guy proves me wrong but unless he seriously ups his game I'll be surprised if he's here next season.

Im with Nobby on Del, I do like him but I just dont think he has what it takes at this level, he was good value at 4m but as you said on your older post no one else was interested at that price.

For me his energy level are a major worry as you no if you start him one of the three subs most of the time has already be counted for, 60 minutes max. A player who cant consistently do 90 minutes has a none footballing abilty problem that we cant ignore, for me this is a worry at his age. Getting draged off for having a shocker is one thing, getting the hook because you cant stand up any longer is another.

As for his abailty I do think a lot of fans get carried away on Del because of the Barcelona connection and because he was one of the few bright things to happen in the awful era which was the Martinez years. Too many times he tries to walk around players and can't, beat the man by swinging it past him, Beckham wasn't the best at beating players with the ball at his feet, if there is no one in the area that is the fault of the strikers for not getting up to play.

Plenty of teams were interested. He chose us because he wanted to play here and because of our fans.

The only reason he was so cheap was because Barca still are interested in him otherwise like Adama he would have been sold.

Del is one of those plays who everything will either click for and he'll become a top drawer player or he'll stay at the level he's at now and sometimes blow hot and cold.

There's many parallel's between him and Ross in that they both need to up their game if they want to become top players. They both have loads of ability but need to improve their end product and perform well more consistently.

I think we should still persevere with Del though. Ronaldo had similar issues when he was a young player at Man Utd, then one season it clicked for him and he took off.

I actually thought it would be this season but it looks like while Ron rates him he doesn't rate him enough to make him the main man which is what I think he needs.

He's not consistent enough - simple as.

Whether that's just age or something that he won't ever shake off remains to be seen

In all fairness though he has been working a lot harder under Koeman. He is getting stuck in. His petulance just tends to get the better of him at times.

Thought in the pre - season games he did well playing up front, chased everything down, would like to see what he could do playing behind Lukaku.

His body language just looked all wrong last night though.

Think the biggest problem for Del under Koeman is the physical side of his game, for all Del's ability he doesn't like to put in a tackle and goes down rather easy shall we say.
Both things that have improved. His work rate is probably better than Mirallas and Barkley at the moment.

At least he's progressing under Koeman even if we aren't seeing the end result yet.

His energy levels are hindering him for sure but playing LW, RW, ST, CAM doesn't always help does it? His best position is RW for me because of his crossing ability. He needs to specialise in FKs as well cos he has the ability but needs more practice.

This is simply untrue.
A falsehood in every sense of the word.
The first half of last season before Martinez inexplicably dropped him says otherwise as to his quality.
