Gerard Deulofeu

I posted this earlier in the year and I stand by every word of it, got nowhere near the Barca 1st team ( no great shame there) think it was Seville where again he hardly got a game and now at Everton he can't hold down a 1st team spot, my own feeling is he's just not good enough.
You can drew parallels with Manny Fenandez, had a couple of half decent games and people went completely overboard about him, to the point people on here were still saying we should sign him years after he left. I hope this guy proves me wrong but unless he seriously ups his game I'll be surprised if he's here next season.

Spelling notwithstanding, you can't draw parallels.

Fully fit - prior to a major knee injury - Fernandes was an incredible player. In recent years I can only think of Fellaini vs Man City and Gueye vs, er, nearly everyone so far where one player has utterly crushed the opposition midfield as much as he did vs Arsenal. His first spell was superb, not just the odd game.

Del unfortunately just doesn't seem to be able to take that next step required, which is a shame as he's so gifted when on form. He's at his best putting a first time cross into the box to a player ahead of him - which let's be honest, there was no movement or player to aim at most of the time last night. He tried but he was poor.

You can't cross if you have no one to cross to.

His finishing was poor last night and that was all.

Even if no player is making the runs into the box, they should be and I think Deulofeu should be whipping as many balls across as possible. The manager will know it is the striker's responsibility to get into those areas, and if he sees Deulofeu putting brilliant crosses in but no movement from Lukaku or whoever else is there, there will be a word in the ear and those crosses will turn into assists soon enough.

I hate to disagree. Passing to an area where there's no one there just makes you look like you haven't looked up.

HAha spelling was never my strong point, the parallels I refer to are not regarding playing styles, more about how people on here go overboard about a player that doesn't warrant the adulation given to him. With regards to your comment about Fellaini and Gueye I totally agree with the Gueye one, though I usually wait for his second season to see if he is still as good, Fellaini vs Man City again agree he was brilliant that game the best I'd seen him play but how often did he preform to that level not very often. There is no doubt that Del has ability but for me he doesn't bring it to the table often enough and in the PL you can not afford to only turn up 1 game in 5 that's not good enough. Like I said in my original post I hope he goes on to prove me wrong and I would willingly except the vault.

It's not like we have the most consistent wingers to replace him with. The same arguments against Deulofeu could easily be levelled at Mirallas and Lennon has his own problems. The only one who is head and shoulders above them is Bolasie at the moment and for the money we spent you would hope that to be the case.

Deulofeu is doing ok. He hasn't hit the highs of last season but his all round game is improving and he hasn't been given a run of games playing with Rom who we know from last season he developed a good understanding with.

Had he put away one of those chances we would have been saying how good a game he had. Small margins.

I agree with your 1st paragraph although I thought Mirallas showed some urgency when he came on, and I agree about Bolasie, but as for Del I just don't see it, "the highs of last season" can't think of to many of those, for every good game he had he'd go missing the next 5 and those chance he had last night he should've have put away the first one, and he should've at least got it on target and make the keeper work for the second one.

Beckham did this for years, as well as his pin point crosses he for the most of the time put it into an area which was dangerous with out looking, strikers should be in them areas, he was lucky he had at Cole, York and RVN, not Valencia, Kone and whoever else want's to stand still waiting for it.

Bolasie is great at doing this as well. Just puts it into a dangerous area.

Del - at his peak form last season - did just that, with Rom on the goal-trial as well.

Exactly.

When you play football, you should be passing it onto the positions your team mates should be in. If you're a centre back, you shouldn't be passing it directly to the feet of your full back, but rather 5 yards ahead of them (so long as no opposition player is there) for them to run on to.

Same applies to any other positions on the field.

Deulofeu, as you rightly mentioned about Beckham, should be whipping balls into the famous corridor of uncertainty and hoping one of either Lukaku or Barkley is making a run to put it in the net.

Here's a reminder.

He never went missing for 5 games. If he didn't score or assist he was dropped. People say Barkley is held to a high standard. Not nearly as high as people hold this kid to.

There just happend to be someone on the end of them. Do you really think players don't aim for their team mates and just "put it in".

Seriously. Even Sunday league players don't do that.

Beckham was the best crosser of the ball in the League in his heyday.

It didn't happen by accident, as he spent hours and hours on the training ground in the afternoons practising his crossing and dead ball delivery / shooting.

They pass it when they see them about to make their run. If they aren't even attempting the run then there's no reason to hit it there apart from to show your frustration with them not making the run.

Barkley doesn't see the run. Valencia doesn't make it. Good players develop an understanding when they expect to both make it and know the pass is going to get there. It's no surprise Rom's form drops when there's no one to pass it to him and no surprise Deulofeu hadn't anyone to cross or pass to.
