What grey area?

you're looking for an argument/issue that isn't there.

You posted "All Lives Matter" in a thread about a black man brutally murdered in broad daylight by a white police officer and the resulting "Black Lives Matter" protests.

That grey area, for one.

But you now accept that racial inequality exists and Black Lives Matter, so we can move on.

We are going to lose many more by the time this is all over aren’t we?

GOT accounts like?

Isn't there an argument to be made to highlight that as the reason for their existence and therefore educate new generations as to the bigotry that brought them about?

Instead of destroying them and pretending it never happened?

A statue only celebrates something if you let it. It's the same as the Rhodes statue debate - yes the guy was deeply ingrained in slavery, but that statue was and is a monument to that too and allows our culture now to understand how people like that came to be successful.

Too often with the younger generation it feels to me people don't want to be challenged and want safe spaces where the world exists in simple terms.

Many have been moved to museums, confederate cemeteries or other similar sites. I think that is appropriate. It's in context there.

It is similar to having the 10 Commandments/religious text on government property. Hard to say the government doesn't endorse Christianity when it's on the front door step to government buildings.

I think the safe places is apt, but maybe not in the way you meant...not trying to speak for black Americans, but based on conversation with friends I'd say blacks don't feel safe. That's what the protests are about...not feeling safe in the presence of the police, a government proxy.

But all lives do matter - whilst I support the black lives matter slogan in the horrific circumstances of what caused the protests I do feel a better slogan could have been used in an effort to unite the large portions of society that are oppressed by the elite in countries like America where the gap between those with money and those in poverty is massive to try start momentum building for larger scale meaningful protests.

A minority of cops being racist murdering scum is just the tip of the iceberg - if you want real change you need to unite the masses and start bringing meaningful change to how life in the USA is for those outside of the entitled which yes covers a massive amount of black Americans and other ethnic minorities.

Maybe in time the slogan will broaden but the last thing you want is the slogan to be hijacked and it become a black vs white thing as nothing ultimately will change as its just the elite sitting by letting the proletariat play off against one another.

That’s because you immediately read into them what you wish to see instead of reading the posts for what they are. You see my name then immediately make assumptions on content or purpose. Perhaps if you didn’t, you may find more things of commonality and agreement than you could have imagined.....

That isn't true though, Pete - if you wish people to read differently in to your posts it may be worth looking in to why so many people see your posts as different to what you intended.

I just dont have some weird desire to make out that white people are evil scum as im white and most people I know are white and guess what? Most couldn't give a toss what colour someone else is, what gender they sleep with in bed or what God they pray to.

Poverty is colour blind - there is no white privilege just the haves and have nots. The haves like to promote differences and groups in society based on ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion etc as they know people will be too busy engaging in petty tribal nonsense to actually come together and realise everyone is human and should be treated as one - and the haves who control most of the resources and wealth do not want that do they.

Until the day comes where we look at one another as humans and not colour, when we dont have events to "celebrate" who we are attracted to and when we dont go to seperate buildings to be told our God is the right one then you'll always have idiots who prejudice against others.

To be honest, all any of this says is that you refuse to look beyond your basic and small world to see what the genuine issues are. White people get to say they don't see colour. It's a privilege to say that. Rich people get to say they don't think wealth affects their opportunities. It's a privilege to say that. Straight people get to say they don't think there is a need for districts for people of different sexual orientations. It is a privilege to say that. All those privileges lead to wrong headed assumptions.

Must be so great knowing the answers to all of lifes issues.

Fancy telling me next weeks lotto numbers?

I hope the protests get more organized and channeled and get things done. I’d love a good leader type like cornel west to take the reigns or someone and get results.
