I just dont have some weird desire to make out that white people are evil scum as im white and most people I know are white and guess what? Most couldn't give a toss what colour someone else is, what gender they sleep with in bed or what God they pray to.

Poverty is colour blind - there is no white privilege just the haves and have nots. The haves like to promote differences and groups in society based on ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion etc as they know people will be too busy engaging in petty tribal nonsense to actually come together and realise everyone is human and should be treated as one - and the haves who control most of the resources and wealth do not want that do they.

Until the day comes where we look at one another as humans and not colour, when we dont have events to "celebrate" who we are attracted to and when we dont go to seperate buildings to be told our God is the right one then you'll always have idiots who prejudice against others.
Think about this. Do you think all of the people of colour in the US protesting right now are the ‘haves’? Or do you think they are the have nots too?

And they are telling you that racism is a problem and it’s real and it’s much more than just not caring about what other people are and who they sleep with. Listen to what they saying.

My point is mate stuff like this naturally generates an "us against them" mentality.

The us against them has always been the elite and the rest of us but we allow them to distort that into whites against blacks, straight against LGBTQ, Christians against muslims etc.

I just think focusing on individual groups solves little in the grand scheme of things. Obviously America has a racism problem at the core of its society - so surely that core itself needs changing? Otherwise history will continue to repeat itself and more needless lives are lost.

It's not generating that mentality, it's pointing out that mentality
In America there is the haves v the have nots and thats primarily along race lines, by design.
These protests are highlighting the fact that the core needs changing.
They are happening because history is repeating it's self.
Something changed when protesters took the 3rd precinct in Minneapolis.
Everyone who brushed off Colin Kaepernick sat up and took notice.

You don't even attempt to see why the comments such as yours at the very least coincide with the viewpoints and comments of those on the far right and trying to discredit the BLM movement

That’s because you immediately read into them what you wish to see instead of reading the posts for what they are. You see my name then immediately make assumptions on content or purpose. Perhaps if you didn’t, you may find more things of commonality and agreement than you could have imagined.....

A simple yes or no question will sort this out.

Over the course of your life, do you think you will suffer the same kind of racial discrimination as a black person?

Classic @peteblue this.

Does he stop to think why so many people on here see his name and make assumptions on his content or purpose?

Nope. Not for a second.

It isn't him. It is the rest of us.

the things we are seeing at the moment are the results of racism. Not the other way around.
I’ve never ever heard a black person say ‘I don’t see race’. Because they don’t have that privilege.
The fact is that people of colour do suffer from oppression. They do suffer from police brutality.
And when they try to protest it they are told they are just creating further division. Which is oppression in itself. It’s silencing.
Colin Kaepernick lost his job (and cant get another one) because he *knelt*. He was told it was an inappropriate protest. He was protesting police brutality and inequality. But there was not response other than to silence him.

The fact is there are differences between us all in many ways (race, class, sexuality) Ignoring them is not going to stop it. ‘Colour blindness’ is not going to prevent racism. It’s just going to perpetrate it. it’s dangerous to conflate or generalise. I used a black, lesbian woman with a disability as my example earlier because intersectionality is important. My posh girl mates are going to have a different experience from my poor boy mates. My black heterosexual mates are going to have a different experience from my white homosexual mates.

It’s not just about individuals and their personal views and behaviour. It’s about the institutions and systems in place.

no need to be glib about it.
You aren't living in America.
It's well known here.

Dear god, if you are the standard for the USA then I’m glad I don’t. I now know that it means something different, but amazingly not everyone outside of the USA does. So how about cutting those who don’t know a little bit of slack eh.....

what, insult me and then ask me to cut you some slack, sure Pete.
Are you not busy reveling in the success of Johnson and Brexit?
Hows that digital border coming along. Wasn't the EU supposed to be a singles state super military by now?
bore off...

I’m full of admiration for those who do mod in here, I‘ve no idea how you sleep at night tbh......

This forum is incredibly tame compared to most of the ones I have been a part of.

Probably because everyone at least has a common pastime with the type of forum it is.
