I think 99.9% percent of the usage is still like this. I've never seen anyone use it as some alt-right/racist thing IRL, but I know it happens online.

It's a movement, violent by nature. Their ideology is to counter fascism you have to be just as violent in the opposite direction.

Basically they're a bunch of teds who enjoy any excuse to fight and loot. They are the dictionary definition of a far left terrorist group.

Those protesting should be as angry at their involvement as anyone, as they corrupt their cause.

people exploit disorder , it’s been ever thus and there have certainly been people exploiting the legitimate protests around this death . It just feels as If the word is used as a catchall in a George soros type way . Again I’m not saying that agitators , anarchists, criminals or whoever aren’t getting involved in this.

As I said, and reiterated, there's a lot going on which is not reported. I have posted the link to the guitar forum I go on (which is populated mainly by Americans). The politics of the post/complete thread doesn't interest me. If it is false info, then it just shows a tiny part of the mentality over there. What is going on, is very sad at the moment. That's all.

I understand that and I’m not having a go. The problem is this; social media is awash with these fake news stories and images that contain no truth what so ever, usually have ulterior motives and whose main purpose is to spread misinformation so no one ends up having a clue what is actually going on. You see many both pro right and pro left. That pic had likely been lifted off the internet and the accompanying story bears no relevance to actual events.

Oh it's definitely a derogatory label too, used by the likes of Trump to denigrate genuine protesters.

But the problem is that there's more than a kernel of truth to it - they are shipped in to cause chaos, so it's not an inaccurate accusation to levy at them, as they turn these things and dominate them.

There's plenty of incidents in these recent riots where you've had genuine protesters watching aghast as "Antifa" are spraypainting and looting.
