It's a movement, violent by nature. Their ideology is to counter fascism you have to be just as violent in the opposite direction.

Basically they're a bunch of teds who enjoy any excuse to fight and loot. They are the dictionary definition of a far left terrorist group.

Those protesting should be as angry at their involvement as anyone, as they corrupt their cause.

Of course it’s not a simple issue. It’s been tearing the heart out of America for a long time, but Obama’s silky platitudes just don’t do it when he had the Power for 8 years to address this. Of course he may have done, he may have ensured recruitment and training policies for the police were rolled out. He may have ensured that standards were applied and followed up. He may have put laws in place to address Police and suspect rights. Perhaps he did, or perhaps he didn’t . If he did then fine, if he didn’t then please no platitudes, not now...and no need for insults either....

Just to be clear antifa is , and I’m presuming now , short for ‘anti-fascist ‘ right ? So Is this now a bad thing ? Should I no longer be opposed to fascism , I know historically the UK was quite proud of the whole anti-fascist attitude . Have I missed a memo ?

Antifa is just an anti-facist thing, it's more of a movement than a group, an ideology so to speak get your message across by any way possible. Greta Thunberg and her family are said to be very involved with Antifa.

On a serious note, I'm 20 pages behind the latest post. Frankly some of us should all give our heads a wobble. A man was killed by a police officer. The dead man was black and the police officer had a litany of complaints against him for acting like a thug which were waved away because the police are immune to any legal ramifications. This is not unusual. It's an all too true reality on the other side of the pond. Instead of having a police force fit for purpose and trying to tackle the seemingly systemic racism in the police and other walks of life, it's been allowed to carry on until it's reached breaking point now that vast swathes of the population haven't got anything to lose. It's ***ked up.

I hope the right people stand forward and hold their nerve and bring the USA back from the brink and have the strength and perseverance to bring about the necessary change.

Think loosely affiliated people - sometimes with hangout bars to congregate in and Twitter and Facebook accounts. But I don't think they have official publications, they're not registered non-profits, etc. They're gangs, really. Like gangs, I'm sure the degree to which individuals engage in illegal activity varies.

I don't know what Trump really thinks he can do about it in terms of designation. But the DOJ can probably crack open some of their structure, and figure out who is financing illegal activity and the like.

It’s anarchism repackaged no? These sort of groups always latch onto any kind of riot, left leaning march...see also socialist worker banners at loads of legitimate marches in the UK

I genuinely don’t how to eloquently speak on these issues anymore, they genuinely utterly break my heart. How the hell can these things still be happening over, and over again. They should never have been happening EVER, let alone 2020. It’s not even just these flashpoint incidents, people of BAME backgrounds are proven to have less opportunities, be overincarcinated, receive significantly harsher sentences, be absurd by stop and search, and police brutality, and globally are significantly more likely to be a victim of violent crime. No innocent person should lose their life over their skin colour, and no parent should have to worry about their child when they go out to play because of their skin colour.

I genuinely don’t think I can even engage with anyone who isn’t supportive of protests against this and the Black Lives Matter movement. Because if you aren’t against innocent people being murdered and dehumanised, you truly are scum in my opinion
