BME statistics are disproportionate across pretty much every nation, across every level of judicial system.

Why are BME more likely to receive a longer prison sentence? Not just in the UK/USA, but in Africa, Brazil, China, Japan...

The smaller sample is easily inflated.
I agree with what you are saying here Danny can you tell everyone to calm down in this thread please.

It’s not a legitimate question - for it to be one, you’d have to not know what it means now, in this context.

LOL what? I'm literally asking if the "OK" hand signal was commonly used for the same purpose in the UK before it obtained whatever meaning you're ascribing to it now. Having not grown up in the UK I have no idea, but I'm assuming it was used in the same manner it was used throughout my childhood here. There isn't some ulterior motive to my question.

Obama....

”Barack Obama has said protests over the death of George Floyd could be a "real turning point" in the fight for police reform.

In a short essay on Medium, the former president said the demonstrations "represent a genuine and legitimate frustration over a decades-long failure to reform police practices and the broader criminal justice system in the United States".

Obama hailed peaceful protesters, saying they "deserve our respect and support", while condemning "the small minority of folks who’ve resorted to violence".

He said people did not have to choose between protest and politics.

"We have to do both," he said.

"We have to mobilise to raise awareness, and we have to organise and cast our ballots to make sure that we elect candidates who will act on reform."

He ended by saying: "The heightened activism of young people in recent weeks, of every race and every station, makes me hopeful."

"If, going forward, we can channel our justifiable anger into peaceful, sustained, and effective action, then this moment can be a real turning point in our nation’s long journey to live up to our highest ideals."

Wonderful, if only he could have been President for a couple of years and sorted it out.......
Right, b/c this is such a simple issue, we can wave our hands and change literally hundreds of years of institutional issues in 8 years.

You're a joke

“whatever meaning you are ascribing to it now”

gave yourself away a bit there

Mate, it’s a Facebook right wing pro gun post that is likely to contain as much factual information as the transfer thread.

As I said, and reiterated, there's a lot going on which is not reported. I have posted the link to the guitar forum I go on (which is populated mainly by Americans). The politics of the post/complete thread doesn't interest me. If it is false info, then it just shows a tiny part of the mentality over there. What is going on, is very sad at the moment. That's all.

Well the obvious whys are implicit bias all the way to outright racism. There are many side by side case comparisons out there in social science literature - same districts/areas, same crime, similar criminal backgrounds etc. Black men tend to be treated more harshly in the justice system. In the US that includes jury decisions.
