Compared to the UK it doesn't mate.
Is this based on your in-depth knowledge of Canada's gun regulations?

I would suggest they're very similar with only specific weapons allowed for legal hunting.

We do have some allowed handguns but the regulations in place limit their use only to the gun range and competitions.

Our regulations are very good and there is a tremendous amount of work before anyone can legally acquire a gun which is why the overwhelming majority of gun crime in Canada is done with illegal guns smuggled across the border from the States

Our cops do carry guns but they don't use them as often as they do in the US.

Oh it's definitely a derogatory label too, used by the likes of Trump to denigrate genuine protesters.

But the problem is that there's more than a kernel of truth to it - they are shipped in to cause chaos, so it's not an inaccurate accusation to levy at them, as they turn these things and dominate them.

There's plenty of incidents in these recent riots where you've had genuine protesters watching aghast as "Antifa" are spraypainting and looting.

but the people spray painting and looting are they ‘antifa ‘ or most people hyjacking the protest . I feel like I’d want to protest and I feel I’d happily identify as Anti fascist .

As I’ve said It just feels as if they word is being corrupted by one side to demonise and and group together anyone who opposes they by saying yep you’re as bad as this bad guy smashing the windows or burning a shop . You’re all ‘antifa “

Theres a video floating around of protestors tackling a guy breaking up the sidewalk (dressed in typical antifa garb) and turning him over the police. Pretty interesting but I can't find it now. Sort of tells the story about how they merge into the protests, then get people riled up and supply them with rocks/stones/etc.

I subsequently heard it was actually undercover cops who busted him, and that may be why it's hard to find after getting a lot of coverage initially.

Yeah I get it but there isn't much if any goodwill for anything called "antifa" in the US. So we don't really have a "good group" that is being demonized by that name, in my opinion. I can see where it'd seem like that from Europe though.

Cops do that too. Seen it myself first hand in the UK at Reclaim the Streets demos back in the day. Then they can go in and start cracking skulls.

I understand that and I’m not having a go. The problem is this; social media is awash with these fake news stories and images that contain no truth what so ever, usually have ulterior motives and whose main purpose is to spread misinformation so no one ends up having a clue what is actually going on. You see many both pro right and pro left. That pic had likely been lifted off the internet and the accompanying story bears no relevance to actual events.

I agree that one can end up, or a lot of people can end up, not having a clue what is/was going on. How many on here know a well-known music store in Montreal was raided on Sunday night by so-called 'protestors' who nicked loads of high-end guitars? I can post a link to the guitar Facebook page if you wish to see it, Jimmy. You won't see that on the news. There's a lot that goes unreported; there's 'fake news' going up also. I'm cynical enough to realise that. That link to the MyLesPaul forum that I put up is, as I said, populated mainly by Americans, and the gun-toting kind are on there in their masses (no doubt bcause that is the ingrained culture over there). That's all. Make of it what you will. But to see those guys armed-up on a public street... The only surprise to me at present is that there hasn't been any kind of 'gun-slaughter', either by the Police or against the Police...

I see right wing British twitter have managed to make “lee rigby” trend on so they can use him as an example of how when one of their own was killed they didn’t riot. weirdos

1/10 mentions are right wing, 9/10 mentions are left wing saying exactly what you are there.

That's why it's trending.

There has been a few incidents here in UK in recent weeks with tazers...

Also there is a sense of targeting,

Yes I agree. The problem is we are getting these micro condensed news stories, when the real stories are far more convoluted. For example antifa is often described as this terrorist organisation but to my knowledge it has no leaders or manifesto. The looters, in many circumstances are people just taking advantage of the chaos. Yet we hear that they’re all antifa members etc. It’s an attempt to discredit legitimate protest in my opinion.

it’s trending because some right wingers made a moronic comparison and people called them out on it, if the righties dont make the original statement it doesn’t trend...

It's trending because of volume and I was sharing my opinion on what that volume is.

Here are the top current 4 tweets on the trend;
