He said the rational behind it was if you wound them they might come back after how ever long and kill you. So why take the chance. It’s all guns isn’t it. My brother has 4 now and a massive stockpile of ammunition all because of fear. No other reason than the fear of being in a situation against someone who has one.

I can't speak to other people but that wouldn't be my rationale. My rationale is that if you break into someone's home while they're in it, particularly in the middle of the night, you're there to do harm. You're willingly putting your life in jeopardy. Should people wait to find out the scope of their intent and put their wife, kids, etc. at risk?

Biggest insult going is all these white people taking the knee in support of the black community. Yet when a black person takes a knee it's deemed unpatriotic.

Given that this is all about black Americans and how they are treated in their own country, why is so many people desperate to include them in this. This is just like the metoo movement from a few years back. Instead of everyone just seeing the problem and supporting the problem for a solution , everyone has to jump onto it when it has nothing to do with them.

Sorry, just winds me up seeing people pretend to care about a cause that has existed for decades.

#dcblackout trending number 1 worldwide on twitter

Had a quick look to see what it's about and just came across lots of randoms vaguely suggesting some protestors were murdered/vanished in DC last night.

Probably more fake news
Wasn't it that the Whitehouse turned the lights off.

Fixed it to provide an alternate view.

Not saying that the protestors should shouldn’t show some restraint or that they should not be arrested and condemned when they do unlawful acts but given that it was an act of police brutality (one in a long string of them) that triggered all this you can’t say that the only thing that needs to change is on the citizen's side.

“To protect and to serve” should mean just that.
Hearts and minds is what I would have thought would be such a basic principle in the police tactics towards their relationship with the public that I can only assume it is being deliberately ignored at various levels and division is the aim.

The only way to change things is to win the hearts and minds of the majority- by protesting in a peaceful manner, organised sit ins, support from the media, Tv personalities, celebrities etc.

Not by smashing up towns, looting & attacking/abusing random cops who are likely not racist and probably hate the minority of cops who give them a bad name just as much as the protesters.

Alot of videos ive seen are protesters thinking they can do what they want and start crying victim when they get a reaction- the black woman punching an officer twice before being punched from behind by a black officer has gone viral but she 100% deserved it imo.

If she shown respect and got her views across peacefully then she would have every right to be aggrieved if some cop randonly hit her - but you cant go around punching folk and not expect a response just because they are in uniform.

Firstly, the majority of the protests have been peaceful. Also, a lot of the demonstrators violence has been directed towards the violent police. Looting cannot be condoned, but maybe some people are tired of being looted their entire lives.

Secondly, black people were freed from slavery nearly 160 years ago in the US. How long are they supposed to wait for fairness and equality?

When the entire system is inherently racist and you're at the bottom, there is no way to effect change quickly without the people at the top being unhappy about it.

If they take a knee at a sports event, they're told they are unpatriotic. If they say Black Lives Matter, they're told All Lives Matter. If they get mad, they're told they are thugs.

I am presuming you are white. If so, you have no idea what it is like to live in a society that blocks off every route towards fairness and you, your friends and your family are regularly subjected to police brutality. When you are preaching from your perch, remember your privilege.

Some times violence is the only way.

Of course this is a complex situation and a lot of wrong things are happening, but that shouldn't detract away from the primary struggle.

There's a section of white America that was ok with Kaepernick's protest, and that is the section that is doing stuff now. The section that went crazy about patriotism is still against everything happening now.

Im sorry but violence is never the answer.

Education, peaceful large scale protests and people coming together is the only way society moves forward.

If everyone started looting and attacking folk based on the actions of a minority then there would be chaos.

Not all cops are racist
Not all priests are child molesters
Not all muslims are terrorists

You would have been pro appeasement with Chamberlain then?

Of course violence is some times the answer.

Otherwise that Hitler chap would have been around for a while longer.

Theres cases to be made that your 3 examples all fall under the same umbrella. If a cop sees another doing something heinous but doesn't stop them, that makes them just as bad. If a priest knows about another priest doing something heinous but does nothing about it, that makes them just as bad. If a muslim knows about an impending terrorist act by another muslim and does nothing about it, that makes them just as bad.

Going back on what this really is about is point 1. Cops do not think of themselves as the protectorate of the population here in the States. They think everyone should be subservient to them. Like @LinekersLegs said, the motto of the police here is "to protect and serve". The followup to that motto is "to protect and serve the general population". They are given extraordinary freedoms like the use of force and they have abused it time and time again.
