There is definitely a racism problem in the USA mate no question and I feel awful for the poor bloke who was unlawfully killed by some scumbag bully - but violence only breeds more violence at some point people have to sit down and work together to try move forward and make life better for future generations.

On cop violence in general in the US forgetting the race element I think alot of it is down to their lax gun culture- being a cop over there you must be on edge all the time thinking some bloke could just pull a gun out and shoot you.

The vid Legs put up of that cop car surroundered by angry protesters - how did he know that one of those protesters didnt have a gun and could have shot at him whilst his cars stuck? Never mind the situation of having angry people surrounding your car anyway which must be scary in the current rised tensions.

I think alot of the heavy response is created largely by fear - almost a "get them before they get me" type mentality. But sadly that is the culture that Americans have created themselves and until they have some effective form of gun control I think they'll always have issues over there.

I wouldn't be a cop over there if you paid me.
Funny you say this. Another thing you notice immediately the first time you go to the UK (or anywhere else that isn’t America) is how none of the cops carry guns. I was telling this to a guy I do some work for, who is in law enforcement, and he made the EXACT same comment at the thought of policing without a firearm.

You’re right though. A lot of these problems have their roots in the absurd gun culture here. Setting the police aside, my whole life I’ve been around people who talk about their guns and needing them to protect their home. With some of them there is almost a sense of giddy anticipation at the thought of the day an intruder comes into their house and so they can have the privilege of killing them in defense of their family. Very disturbing IMO.

Unless they've got a gun.

Today marks the start of Pride Month. We would do well to remember that we only have as many rights and freedoms as we do because of the Stonewall Riots, started because of gay and trans people of colour standing up to police at the Stonewall Inn.

Power to the People.

Having Bristols on line, somehow. Its been a big deal here for ages, and rightly so.

Bristol Pride has announced that it is moving the event online this year, to ensure people can experience the festival in safety.

The popular event celebrates the LGBT+ community and will now be held virtually between 1-12 September

Bristol Pride Online will include many of the events and activities regular visitors enjoy including the dog show, film festival and comedy night, and will culminate in the pride day celebration with a virtual parade and performances.

"We consider the health and safety of our attendees, staff and city of upmost importance and with a restriction on mass gatherings looking to continue we’re just not able to deliver a physical festival this year.

"But Pride is such a vital part of many people’s lives and the show must go on and we’re really excited and energised at the thought of mixing it up and delivering a great show online,” said festival director Eve Russell

The festival had been due to take place in July but was postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak. Organisers are also working on next year's festival which is set to be held on 10 July.

The only way to change things is to win the hearts and minds of the majority- by protesting in a peaceful manner, organised sit ins, support from the media, Tv personalities, celebrities etc.
Interesting. I always wondered how the 13th Amendment came about.

Film and comedy I get, but dog show? Wut?

Are the dogs or the owners gay?

Just struck me as a bit random is all. Ignore me. Just being daft.

Bristol is a very random place at times mate.

It wasnt that long ago that they made a busy street in the city centre into a massive water slide.

My older son goes to some of it with his step brother and his husband. Its brilliant by all accounts.

It does look to be great fun but I've never been before. I guess a sense of embarrassment over my sexuality and wanting to not come out until I felt comfortable enough to do so prevented me from doing so.
