So all black people need to do is show the proper respect and they'll be treated fairly?
I'm glad you haven't suffered a lifetime of institutionalised racism, hopefully an entire countries black population can learn to be more respectful and ensure they bring no further trouble on themselvesRegardless the majority of the US police will be your regular hard working Joe who isnt corrupt or racist.
Sadly the minority cause the problems so everyone is tarred with the same brush.
It doesnt excuse people to be looting, smashing up innocent peoples stuff and physically abusing\blockading police just because of their job.
Respect goes a long way in life - if you show respect chances are you'll never have any bother. If you go round causing aggro or getting in peoples faces then you really cant have any complaints if you end up in bother.
Thats not just to do with the police either, its idiots on nights out causing bother then wondering why they get thumped off some bloke or a doorman.
I've never had any issues be it from people on a night out / bouncers or police when at the football / train stations and thats because I dont go looking to get a reaction from people and if bother does come my way I try my best to diffuse the situation which is not what those people are doing in that video.
lol They shouldn’t go out looking for bother! Very funny post.I'm glad you haven't suffered a lifetime of institutionalised racism, hopefully an entire countries black population can learn to be more respectful and ensure they bring no further trouble on themselves
The only way to change things is to win the hearts and minds of the majority- by protesting in a peaceful manner, organised sit ins, support from the media, Tv personalities, celebrities etc.
Not by smashing up towns, looting & attacking/abusing random cops who are likely not racist and probably hate the minority of cops who give them a bad name just as much as the protesters.
Alot of videos ive seen are protesters thinking they can do what they want and start crying victim when they get a reaction- the black woman punching an officer twice before being punched from behind by a black officer has gone viral but she 100% deserved it imo.
If she shown respect and got her views across peacefully then she would have every right to be aggrieved if some cop randonly hit her - but you cant go around punching folk and not expect a response just because they are in uniform.

Do you breathe oxygen on your planet?
In large part, I agree with you on this. But to me, it has to cut both ways. In theory, you shouldn’t be able to go around killing people just because you ARE in uniform. However, what we’ve historically seen play out with the American criminal justice system is that putting on that badge literally gives you a license to kill regardless of the circumstances. The only way to change things is to win the hearts and minds of the majority- by protesting in a peaceful manner, organised sit ins, support from the media, Tv personalities, celebrities etc.

Please tell me how smashing up shops and punching random cops is going to change a society.

Me and my family were talking over the weekend, and while we can all name off countless times a cop has CLEARLY been in the wrong for killing someone, none of us could think of a single time an officer faced any sort of punishment beyond either temporary or permanent loss of employment, and that’s appalling.
With all that said, you’re right about the only way to ultimately change things is to win the hearts and minds of the majority through the media. That’s pretty much how it played out here in the US fight against homophobia and for gay rights. That one swung really quickly. I remember sitting around 15ish years ago arguing with people about whether gay marriage would EVER be legal in the US, and within probably five years the attitude of the country had almost completely changed and it was legal everywhere.
Racial issues will be a longer road. The tension between white and black people is just so ingrained in our culture, particularly in the South. As someone who has lived here my whole life, one of the first things that struck me the first time I ever visited the UK was just how vastly different the race relations are there. Not really even sure how to accurately describe it, or begin to understand why, but it’s just a night and day difference.
Maybe this may help, for an example of how a government acted and how our L8 black and white community were treated and how the upheavals of the 1980s forced change on society.

And yet racism still goes on in society and black football players etc. Abused in the UK every season.
Thing is mate no sitting down and talking has helped, look at the history, look at how many times riots have happened, look at the suspicion both police and African Americans have for each other,if you are going out knowing if you forget to indicate ir run a red light theres a chance you end up dead, its difficult to sit and talk,if your more likely to get jailed than your white neighbour for the same crime,if you have armed groups walking the streets carrying confederate and swaztika flags, who are you going to sit down with? There is definitely a racism problem in the USA mate no question and I feel awful for the poor bloke who was unlawfully killed by some scumbag bully - but violence only breeds more violence at some point people have to sit down and work together to try move forward and make life better for future generations.
On cop violence in general in the US forgetting the race element I think alot of it is down to their lax gun culture- being a cop over there you must be on edge all the time thinking some bloke could just pull a gun out and shoot you.
The vid Legs put up of that cop car surroundered by angry protesters - how did he know that one of those protesters didnt have a gun and could have shot at him whilst his cars stuck? Never mind the situation of having angry people surrounding your car anyway which must be scary in the current rised tensions.
I think alot of the heavy response is created largely by fear - almost a "get them before they get me" type mentality. But sadly that is the culture that Americans have created themselves and until they have some effective form of gun control I think they'll always have issues over there.
I wouldn't be a cop over there if you paid me.
Fixed it to provide an alternate view. The only way to change things is to win the hearts and minds of the majority- by policing in a peaceful manner, organised events, support from the media, Tv personalities, celebrities etc.
Not by harrassing & attacking/abusing random african Americans who are likely not criminals and probably hate the minority of others who give them a bad name just as much as the police do.
