Awful, glad they were rescued in time but they have still lost their home
RICHMOND, Va. -- Rioters blocked a fire truck from responding to a burning home early Sunday morning in Richmond, according to Richmond Police Chief Will Smith.

“Protesters intentionally set a fire to an occupied building on Broad Street. This is not the only occupied building that has been set fire to over the last two days. But they prohibited us from getting on scene,” Smith said. “We had to force our way to make a clear path for the fire department. Protestors intercepted that fire apparatus several blocks away with vehicles and blocked that fire department’s access to the structure fire. Inside that home was a child.”

Smith’s voice filled with emotion as he recounted the event during a Sunday morning press conference. “Officers were able to help those people out of the house. We were able to get the fire department there safely,” he said before pausing to regain his composure. ”When you take a legitimate issue and hijack it for unknown reasons, that is unacceptable to me. It's unacceptable to the Richmond Police Department and unacceptable to the City of Richmond.”

This is when these protests make no sense when they start directly or indirectly killing or putting other people in mortal danger. That could be another person just like George Floyd (+ a family to boot) that might not have seen another day. Until people start realising every life matters equally then nothing will get better. Obviously you get some plonkers like that bloke firing an arrow into the crowd (if that is what he did) that deserve to get turned on by the mob, but it's heartbreaking if regular people who are trying to keep their heads down get attacked or have their property stolen or damaged.

America unfortunately was just a powder keg waiting to go off and you can see from the lawlessness that one day one of these events could turn it back into the Wild West.

I live in Richmond. For clarification, it wasn't an apartment complex, they set fire to the building on the ground floor but there were apartments above it.

That's a giant FU to everyone who thinks that is even remotely acceptable btw. But I did want to say it wasn't like they were trying to(this is an edit and, I guess, another clarification) intentionally kill the people inside.

As I posted earlier it is just a perfect storm and not just meaning the recent torrent of racism in the headlines.
25% unemployment that will particularly hit younger workers who have been locked inside for weeks and there is no other diversions on a summer weekend.

Which is why the failure of leadership at both federal and state levels is so appalling and damaging.

I keep on seeing how the police are escalating things, this whole thing is a fn powder keg. Eventually some protestors are going to bring guns in to the crowd. Whether for "we need to protect ourselves" or "we are going to escalate" is irrelevant.

Can we just fast forward to 2021 already? Jebus....

Having lived in tinder dry California for many years I have acquired a new appreciation for just how fast any fire can go sideways rapidly so have zero tolerance for people setting light to any building.

Looters who aren't going for essential food/medicines are just the scum of the earth as far as I'm concerned.
Small business gets ruined while the corporations can afford the loss.
The people instigating this are the same that occupied wall street, but they got paid off.
Don't take my word for it, do a little research.
