What people dont understand is that there is a difference between racism and institutional racism.

Until they realise the difference they'll never understand the opposite viewpoint.

Are their racists in the UK? Yes

Are ethnic minorities more likely to be racially abused than the white majority? Yes

Is the UK institutionally racist that stops minorities from progressing in life whilst giving white people a leg up? NO

Funny how people never point to Asian children in this country who often flourish despite being a minority themselves - the reason why is two Things - 1. Often they come from financially secure backgrounds and 2. Their parents put alot of value in education.

White and black working class kids are often deprived of both its just you only ever hear how black working class are discriminated and have it tough - race has nothing to do with it and I say that as someone who came from a working class background in the North - I could relate a lot more to some working class black kid from a London estates upbringing than I could a upper middle class white lad from some leafy suburb.
This post boils my piss to be perfectly honest. As it completely sums up the ‘there’s nothing to see here’ position that many seem to be taking over this issue.

As to try and separate the fact that racists are still very much present in our society from institutional racism, is naive beyond belief.

The most recent major survey on racism in this country, showed that circa 25% of the populous admitted to having racist views. 1 in 4 adults ffs. To try and deny that a percentage of those people haven’t attained positions of influence and power is pure denial. As whether it’s conscious or sub conscious people with racist views will be making decisions on a daily basis, whether that’s who gets an interview or the job, who gets stopped in the street for a stop and search, who gets the board promotion, who gets the scholarship etc etc etc ad infinitum.

You even have the temerity to suggest that Asians are somehow exempt, based on absolutely knack all.

They'll always be racists in society - as they'll always be rapists, murderers, thugs, fraudsters who defraud little old ladies - does that make the country institutionally accepting of scum?

Unfortunately the police have had to send in the horses down Whitehall, in reaction to items being thrown at officers.

It is quite frustrating. I don't think violence against the police is justified here in the UK. Violence will undermine the message and turn people against BLM.
The police are too heavy handed sometimes. There are cultural theories and evidence that riots or protests police themselves without external law enforcement being required.

Agree with a lot of that.

It's why I have an issue with the term "white privilege" when applied to the UK. A middle class black lad was a lot more "privilege" than a working class white lad here.

Comparing the US and UK in regard to racism really is apples and oranges. Yes, black people have issues here, but it's generally because they largely fall into the lower classes rather than the colour of their skin.
This is comparing apples and oranges. The effect of white privilege in the UK is that if you take a black person and a white person with otherwise identical backgrounds and situations, the black person will find it harder than the white person. White privilege does not mean that every single white person has an easier or better life than every single black person.

The problem is alot of middle class white folk have grown up with it easy and they assume all white people had the same luxury which couldn't be further from the truth.

Funnily enough I live on a new build estate and a large percentage of people who live in the what I call "posher" 4-5 bed big detached houses are asian/indian families - whereas Mr white privilege here is slumming in a 3 bed semi.

Just down the road is the council estate I grew up on full of predominately white working class who largely work in mimimum wage jobs and/or on benefits scraping by on their arses with little to no future.

Something something white privilege.

Cant leave protesters policing themselves on Whitehall, theyll attack the police line at Downing Street (like on Wednesday), which is always there.

The Met have been really light touch with BLM here.

The police horses have gone in because protesters started throwing bottles at officers, not the other way round.

I've been on a couple of very flaky hippy protests and the bizzies always show up mob handed and incite the small element who 'want a go'. The police turn it on and off depending on what they are ordered.

As we have been replying back and forth, you should know I grew up proper working class. My views arent coloured by "having it easy".

And I'll say it again, white privilege is having all of the same issues as a black person, except racial discrimination.

You’re not born a racist. It’s learned behaviour, to glibly say there’ll always be racists, so we should just try and pretend it’s not still a societal issue is bollocks. Education is the key, as we need to stop the cycle repeating.

Noted that you ignored the salient part of my post btw.
