Here's a message in a bottle from an old cranky R. Last night was the beginning of the end of the influence of Donald Trump on the party. It belongs to Ron DeSantis now.

Gen Z is the key. Florida is older voters. Younger voters, especially out West, went overwhelming against the Trump-identifying candidates, and with the exception of Vance, the Trump-anointed candidates are dropping in the Senate races.

The Republicans are a dumpster fire, but don't get cocky. This was not a D win, it was a Trump loss. Worth it for that. It's not like Fetterman is some great candidate. They should be as ashamed of putting him out there as the R's should be for Herschel Walker.

We have a lot of things to sort over here, and precious few answers. I bet that sounds familiar. Don't be surprised to see some movement from Rs to finally make Trump have to answer for his behavior. Happiest man of the night?

Karl Rove. Old Turd Blossom was beaming. Bet you thought you'd never be on his side, did you? The GOP will be measuring the size of the wave they would have had without that boat anchor on their prospects. Best of all, maybe this will lower the temperature a bit.

On both sides, we face the future with hope and anxiety. Good things world events are relatively cal... What?
You were going so well till you compared fetterman to walker.

So, my understanding so far is that this is a pretty damn good result for the Dems, and the red wave has been more of a red trickle?
Considering the economic situation right now, and that the party in power almost always loses seats in the midterms, I’d say (fingers crossed) holding the Senate, only losing the House by a handful of seats, winning some Governor’s races that had been in doubt, and maybe even getting Lauren Boebert tf out of Congress is as close to a win for Democrats as we could have possibly come.

Neither should have been running. It isn't a character question. It about exercising common sense.
They should have done the responsible thing and owned up to the man's true condition. What's going on borders on abuse.
Both parties are doing stupid things for venal reasons. He is in no condition to serve, and I suspect he will be quietly shuffled off unless he recovers.

I hope he recovers.

This.

It was a disastrous night for Trump and his merry band of election denying loons, and will probably force the Republicans to FINALLY distance themselves from that element of their support going forward.

That said, let’s not kid ourselves into thinking DeSantis is a step in the right direction. Sure, he’s far less likely to commit actual treason like Trump appears to have done, but he’s right there with Trump on all his anti-immigrant positions, and in some ways (abortion, LGBT rights) he’ll actually probably be even more heinous and cruel than Trump ever was.
I heard his speech on "the woke" earlier, scary!
