Current Affairs General US politics (ie, not POTUS related)

There is nothing close to the teachings of Christ in this or other diktats from the white nationalists who seem to control America. They are pure Old Testament - an eye for an eye, I am a jealous god etc. They have more in common with the likes of the Taliban than any Christian based set of beliefs. I'm sure things like compulsory teaching of creationism will be widespread there before long unless there is a significant change of political direction. For a supposedly secular state America gives an incredible amount of influence to Christian beliefs. The Handmaids Tale will be in the non-fiction section of US libraries soon - if it's not burnt and banned.
Completely agreed, mate.

God had nothing to do with this, you twit.

All that's happened is to ensure poor, scared women will die. How godly.
The same women that out of need will have to file for food stamps, and social services so they can take care of the children that the Supreme Court is now mandating they must have. But then these same women will be labeled by Republicans politicians as lazy women that only want to have kids and not work only to live of the system.

I don't understand US politics really so can I ask who these 9 people are that got the final vote, and how in an educated first world country are they voting against right to abortion?

Who? The Supreme Court of the United States.
Why? Because they personally do not like abortion, mostly due to religious convictions. Not legal ones.

Couldn’t be more disgusted with the recent rulings by the Supreme Court. My adoptive country is heading a wrong path. Sure let’s continue giving gun owners the right to buy assault weapons that are killing actual human beings, while taking a women’s right to make a decision about their bodies.
So, I've not had a strong leaning one way or the other on abortion. As a woman, I'm curious what's your take on a question that's always been on my mind that's central to how I think I'd lean.

First, women whose lives are in danger or have been raped should without question have access to abortion. As much as I may have trouble with the idea of ending a part of life, I don't see how those women can be held without choice for those circumstances. No one wins in the matter of choosing between mother and baby, and a raped woman certainly didn't choose to become pregnant so why hold them responsible?

Leading to my main question, when does the decision to reproduce come? Reproductive rights gets thrown around as a hot button phrase, but since when does the right to reproduce begin/end after conception and not at/before the moment of conception?

I don’t know if any official proposals have been put forth here just yet as it’s still a protected right for the time being, but Marcia Blackburn was already suggesting an eventual statewide ban on all forms of birth control pretty much hours after the news of this decision leaked a couple months ago.
I [Poor language removed] hate Marsha Blackburn. She's nothing but a conniving Trump [Poor language removed] in replying any time I've written her as a concerned citizen.

In effect, roughly half the states will ban abortion

In fact, 3 states already had laws on the books that go into immediate effect if Roe was ever overturned.

Some states will prosecute you for leaving one state to have an abortion in another. But that only applies for those with the means to travel to different states.

Some states will be essentially Gilead

i don't think penalty against interstate travel for abortion will stand up, but i've seen weirder stuff; it's not illegal to gamble in Vegas if you are from a state that does not allow casino gambling within state borders

"We" aren't controlled by them, "we" are them. The moderate is becoming increasingly small.
Oh, I don't subscribe to the middle being squeezed by the left and right in equal sense. Not at all.

The left is not on a mission to outlaw religion or force people to marry someone of the same sex or have an abortion. The political right, on the other hand, is on a mission to impose their view of morality via the law.

They are a minority of the electorate but, effectively, have maneuvered to take advantage of the quirks in the system to have outsized control.
