I’ll try this again, as there seems to be a lack of interest in the Afghanistan thread. Do any Americans in here have any views regarding the absolute shambles and calamity caused by Biden as a result of his decisions over Afghanistan…

Wanna mention Bush minor and Trump? Cause if not it's a pointless exercise. It's a major ballsup going back decades.

Biden should not have honored Trump's deal as Trump's deal was sh!t. Biden should have developed a much better plan and time-line than the one he took. His advisors were idiots if they believed that the Taliban would not overtake the country in a matter of days--anyone could have predicted this as there was nothing in Trump's idiotic "peace" deal that said they couldn't; the only thing the Taliban agreed to was to keep Al Qaeda out of the country. It is a huge tragedy for the good people of Afghanistan and it is likely to be an unfortunate blemish on Biden's record for not doing this in a more considered way.

Good cut and run, Trump had the right idea to get out, so did Biden. Is it Bidens fault he probably listened to the COIN generals and expected an orderly withdrawl and 3 months, yes, if getting the Afganis friendly to the US out was the goal.

If you want to look at this cynically: Biden made a quick exit because politically its a lot more prudent to leave them at the airport than bring in thousands instead of hundreds of refugees. If you noticed we haven't treated immigrants/refugees like human beings for almost a good 20 years now, what if one or a few of them committs a violent crime because he soon realized that America isn't the wonderland he saw on a bootleg DVD. Remember kidz, Trump almost won because he was "better" than Biden on immigration on exit polling. Pro-immgration/bringing in refugees is a loser issue here, Biden knows it. Spend some time around immigrants here and you'll find pretty substancial pockets of them in this country who have a "I'm in, close the gates and bar the door" attitude (not a majority, but this attitude is gaining serious traction). After all you come from a corrupt country and you watch fox news, it all feels normal to you. Plus say you are an immigrant in a deep red state, immigrants know better than we do how to navigate tribal politics: get in on the winning side.

Definitely a cynical take.

And not particularly wrong

Mention them all, I’d just love to hear some American views…..
It's a tricky one.
The CIA armed and trained what became the Taliban.
I could see the need to go in in 2001 but by the time Bin Ladin (a Saudi living in Pakistan) was killed, it was clear that all the US were doing in Afghanistan was keeping the Taliban from regaining power. The drawdown should have started 10 years ago but the military industrial complex needed to be fed, especially given what a mess Iraq had become. Here in the US, the military offer the kind of health and educational social programs that everyone in the UK takes for granted, it's a huge system and it has to be fed.
Trump, to his credit, made it ok for Republicans to not want endless war. His deal with the Taliban, however, was pretty naive from what I can gather and put Biden in a position where ripping off the bandaid was possibly the best option.
So an unpopular war which had no prospect of a successful end is brought to a scrappy conclusion.
It will see an increase in Islamic terrorism and an increase in US drone attacks as these things will be fought from bunkers in Arizona in the future.
I don't see the US military engaging in any massive 'troops on the ground' wars any time soon, if ever again.
The world needs to work harder at establishing a workable UN peace keeping force, finding a way to avoid wealthy countries policing poorer ones with the intention of preserving only their own interests and safety.
