As there seems to be very few American comments in the Afghanistan thread, may I ask what are the views of our American colleagues in respect of Bidens handling of Afghanistan…….

Once again, I raised the issue of the Trump ‘deal’. However Biden has been in charge for a while and revoked a number of Trump plans, but not this one. This mess belongs to Biden.

My reference to BLM was to show where our ‘priorities’ lie. Your reference to the royal yacht is just stupid….
I feel like you'll have some thoughts here: why do people call BLM "Marxist"? I don't really get where that comes from.

Aye that's fine, see it online a good deal from people barking about how bad BLM is so figured you might have insight.

I’ve no great beef about BLM, I just don’t like all the fawning political attention it receives in comparison to other issues requiring support…Everton took the knee yesterday, standing in solidarity with Afghanistan might actually put pressure on cowardly Western politicians…..

Well in the US where it started it is a major issue and serious source of injustice. I've no idea the systemic level of racism in Europe and although I'd guess it isn't great it probably doesn't challenge the US on that front. We really need to sort it.

It only gets "fawning" attention by the right-wing idiot press here Pete. Their new marching orders, as you know, are to pretend that "critical race theory" is the worst thing to hit US classrooms since McCarthyism (another fiction conctcted by the right).

It just exemplifies Biden's problem. The man is a weather vane. He was dead on the party median for voting record in every Congress he served in. He's the Senate's version of Clinton.

Many years ago, I was fortunate enough to be present for a speech given by one of our most eminent foreign policy people. I won't burn him because he implicitly asked us not to, but during the Q&A he explained the problem with being a weather vane and trying to conduct foreign policy. It leads to playing reactive ball. Lacking a proactive plan leads to outcomes like this one.

It's better than having a bad plan (Cheney and the neocons), which is how we ended up in this mess in the first place. I'd take Biden any day of the week over Trump's isolationism masquerading as foreign policy. The general problem with our present foreign policy is that the people inside the Beltway are so focused on the war that's going on inside it that they either forget there's a world outside it, or subordinate those challenges to trying to win the internal battles.
