I find this depressingly plausible

The answer to that, of course, is the party lining up behind a single candidate and threatening to hammer heretics.

Odds are they line up behind James. AOC sits, ticks some seniority years and waits for Schumer's seat to open. Gillibrand ticks some seniority years. No one else has the name recognition to win the fundraising war. Problem solved.

AOC would have a tough time winning a senate/governor primary. NY is blue, but its Wall St. blue. That being said its doable if you run a good campaign.

She and other liberals need to start running for governor tho and prove that their policies work on a state level. congress is just a rubber stamp/block on any the executive branch wants. you are never getting anything done there.

“temporarily suspended” ffs

They hide behind freedom of speech for government officials in order to avoid slaying their sacred cash cows.

The revenue model more or less necessitates that position. It's possible to become "too big to fail" on the platform, provided that you don't say things that might get Twitter sued.

Indeed, and one of the beneficial end results of these past eighteen months should really be that social media firms get massively reigned in.

I don’t want to agree with Trump but making it clear they are publishers of material (and can therefore be held responsible for what they monetise on their platforms) needs to happen now, as a minimum. Personally I’d tax them heavily as well, based on the damage they’ve done to society, individuals and people’s mental health too.

I did the math the other day on what would happen if we internalized the mental health externality one particular large company (not social media) recently bought its way out of. I concluded that the company would collapse. That was just one of that particular company's numerous and well-documented sins.

If we actually made companies systematically face the music on that, our economy would collapse. This is one messed up world we live in.

I generally like our California gov and the people running against him on recall imo will likely make things much worse on lots of issues including covid in the state

However boasting about less people being ill is pretty gross, these are real people being hurt after all. Also given the unpredictability of Covid this is tempting fate. Feel that his communications team could convey the same data with a bit more tact and empathy.

The entire recall election remains an idiotic waste of everyone’s time and resources. He’s up for re-election in barely over a year, and I assume could face a primary challenge even sooner. If that many people are unhappy with his performance, just vote him out then.
