My reaction is mostly for the intentional act of deception more so than the confirmation bias of specific media or personalities.

There is another recent story where a university student wrote fake threatening notes to herself that spurred campus wide protests because people just believed everything without actually confirming it. Same thing happened here with right wing news being oh so happy to report on this without actually fact checking.
The deception won’t stop because it works.

They do not care if they look stupid to people like you or me. She represents the Party of alternative facts, denial of science and slavish cult-worship of Donald J. Trump and is pandering to the right-wing culture warriors.
Elise Stefanik graduated from Harvard. She knows damn well and good Medicare and Medicaid are socialized medicine schemes.

All joking aside, a lot of the discourse surrounding Simone Biles the last few days serves as a stark reminder of just how regressive the general attitude towards mental health in this country is and why it can be so frightening for people to seek out help here.
This is a woman who two weeks ago was almost universally praised, is a multi-time gold medalist, has fought through numerous injuries, and overcame being sexually abused as a child by her trainer. Obviously there has been an enormous amount of supportive response, but for the predictable cretins to use their platforms to paint her as a coward is beyond disgraceful.
Does anyone believe if your average person tried this they would get the same leniency?
I hope he resigns and is prosecuted
