General strike/protest

Vandalism by any number doesn't discredit anything that's been said. And if you believe it does then you've handed your much loved democracy over to the headline makers.
Mind you if all I have to do in future is write UKIP or God Loves A Tory onto a monument to guarantee everything they say becomes irrelevant then I'm up for it. And none of you had better change the rules.

Any other protests, the small ones, with just a couple of million or a few hundred thousand, tend not to get mentioned on the telly or get a snippet in the print media, so the scale of those with problems isn't recognised.

A protest that has an affect on the workings of a society for a day will be seen as the scale it is, the level of disatisfaction and where once it was miners, steel workers, we're now seeing doctors, nurses etc, the so called 'professional classes'.

So, yeah, 'koff 21st century saying enough is enough, we'll let the disabled and the poor go down on their own, and we'll just wait our turn. Brilliant. Tactical genius. ;)

No it won't.
All it will do is mess people up for 1 day.

If its going to be done it has to be done properly...by everyone...as in General, not one day...but until the bitter end...and it will be bitter and it will end and not well, but sometimes it has to be done...or else where are you.

I remember Fords set the 'pay anniversary' for Nov. On the premise that nobody will strike just before Christmas and we stuck it out until well into the new year. the 'people' need to get more 'french' and stick it to the man.

any way, don't wave a red flag at me, not in a labour sense or a football sense...just sayin like.

Hate these threads.

Everyone who doesnt agree with some folk are "scum" or "gullible idiots" it seems.

Not great.

Agree that it's wrong to call out on for not sharing your opinion.

However it's a natural reaction to hate on those who deny your rights and your liberty and cripple the services that might save your life.

In fact that straggles the border of right and wrong and crosses into 'you could heed the death of my child through your self centrist politics' and so it is not wrong not distasteful to share that opinion at all so long as you refrain from personal attacks.

No one is waving a red flag. My response was and is appropriate. Everything has to start somewhere, can't go from lethargy to revolution in moment.

The day is, I'm assuming and hoping, a spark, and a catalyst for change, your reply dismissed that, at what alternative, current inertia?

There is, as you know, a lot of emotion throughout the country ranging from discomfort and nervousness to genuine hardship and pain, this is an attempt to harness and channel that. The French model has historical precedent that this country doesn't. I have been out for just on a year and understand the difficulties of striking, even the most suffering now would miss 'comforts' quite quickly, so grabbing attention first seems a sensible step.

My choice would be to have a weekend that nobody spent anything

Whilst I in no way agree with the actions of those who behave like in your photo, nothing desecrates the memory of those who gave their lives for our freedom and peace, like those who spread fear; pit human against human, and promote inequality. These are actions that destroy the liberty that brave men and women sacrificed themselves for, to protect.

There will be ex servicemen losing benefits and dignity but somehow graffiti is more of an outrage.
Maybe the graffiti daubed on St. George's Hall means that anyone arguing for immigration control should not be allowed a voice.
Part of any fight against totalitarianism is for the right to dissent. And if people join in the debate to discredit the idea of dissent itself then they become a threat to democracy. And easy to manipulate by any state.

There's a greater attack on the principles of those that fought to protect these shores, and it's being carried out by the country's own government. Beat down the poor, smear the reputations of the disabled and ridicule any who seek social justice and equality, all of course in addition to the above.
