General strike/protest

On the contrary, it'd be a godsend for the Tories.

Hadn't thought of it like that, but yea, they'd love people to strike illegally and give them an excuse to reduce workers rights even farther through the statute book. Even in the public services, it'd take one hell of a lot of organising to get a decent general strike going legally.

The French would strike and be damned, but we're way too polite and law abiding.

And I wouldn't be able to argue with them if they did.

Workers rights diminished out of national necessity, and Labour completely unelectable as the political party of rabble rousing, protest and disruption for a generation.

Anyone supporting a general strike would be the best Tories in the world.

If the country went on strike at protest at the government then hopefully the country would take notice at what is going on in downing street.

Hell I would fully back a nhs walkout at the defence of the doctors.

More people from disadvantaged backgrounds go to university since they were introduced, and the proportion is higher in England than it is in Scotland. If only those folks used their energies in slightly more constructive ways.
This is really weird - I've seen it written around a few times. I know of a lot of people who have decided not to go to uni for various reasons (or just damn laziness)... and that's alright, like, it's their choice, but I've heard the reason "it's too expensive" being thrown around by locals - it'd be a valid excuse, had university education not been free in Scotland; oh and the fact those same people live IN Glasgow, like...

Does my head in slightly, that.

Been 'subsidised' for years, the tax-dodging, information-thieving gets...
They paid back the tax this year (backlog, plus are paying a lot more now... despite the fact I agree with them that it's a problem for politicians to fix, not the companies themselves, but that's a different topic I guess), and supposedly the government steals more (or at least more vital) information from you than having a few passwords saved to your Google account, or doing basic tracking so it can feed you things that might be interesting to you.

Seen some early organising and campaigning for a sort of general strike on 4th July this year.

Anybody particpate if it went ahead?

Generally against the attacks on everything from the disabled to the junior doctors by this runt of a government...

typo maybe....

Independence Day???

I'll scold them at Air Command when I get back there on Friday! But I'm guessing it's due to allay any confusion or pedants writing in saying they've seen Lord Coffin-Dodger wearing the old MRAF slides in his ceremonial garb; as I say, previous officers of that rank can still wear it and hold the title til they die. Ordinarily, the ranks only go up to 4-star now (I believe it's the same for the Army and Navy, too)

What, can't get any talented new recuits?

Am I supposed to be impressed, like?

Cos I'm not. If they'd paid their taxes an alternative (that'd been state-owned) could've been funded.

I simply don't believe that last bit by the way. For instance, I attended a pitch event last week where these guys were presenting

Academics from Cambridge and Brussels respectively. They created a startup, they weren't working in the NHS. Universities spin-out ventures all the time, and I can't think of a single instance whereby the NHS 'buy' them. In this general field you've got IBM doing some tremendous things in radiology, the Avalon team having a go at dementia and, as mentioned above, Google working on kidney health. These are some of the smartest minds in the country. I really don't see why you would object to them turning their energy to healthcare simply because of who pays their wages.

Cheers for that patronising crap mr tebbit

I quite fancy doing a MBA, lend us £30,000 will you? Or is that different?
