General strike/protest

I attempted to use a slightly more subtle approach than you would advocate. While you wish to fight the old battles, which do not work anymore, the intelligent approach may be beyond your understanding........

Pete, it 's not a case of fighting OLD battles, it's a case of fighting battles you believe in, and in the case of those still in employment, battles in which you have a vested interest. I saw more than enough of that in my time...

Without a Strategy or without tactics all you have is noise.....which you are currently demonstrating.......

Wrong. You have action. You cannot lay down clear strategy and tactics, since changing events leads to matters taking different turns.

Please, do not talk down to me as if I know little or nothing...

Fine, so now you are starting to think instead of reacting, how do you turn a position based on strikes into a winning position based on argument and support.......

I wasn't. Unfortunately you did that yourself.......

Whereas yours obviously do. There is more than one way to skin a cat, but you cannot open your mind to anything other than your 1970's approach, welcome to the future......

1. Not at all.

2. I have an open mind about all things.

3. You appear to be fixated about the 1970s. Well, workers action against their employers in the face of what they perceive to be a 'wrong' has been going on since the 19th century, and continues on into the present time, as evidenced by this thread.

4. You apparent attempt at claiming the moral high ground has floundered. It can be clearly seen in your posts...

Another pathetic post.

Can you really not do any better...?

Oh I can do a lot better, as you will find out.......so next time someone puts across a different viewpoint, that is at odds to your own, instead of just trying to vilify it perhaps you will engage in constructive debate.......

"...so now you are starting to think instead of reacting..." What's this supposed to mean? I won't go into it in detail, as I don't think you would follow it.

As for this: "...how do you turn a position based on strikes into a winning position based on argument and support......." Ah, now you're using the favourite tactic used on forums of posing a question when you are unable to answer or refute another person's point. Not biting, pete, not biting...

You are looking too deep. It was a valid question. If you believe that just going on strike will 'win' then there is nothing more for you to say, so just say so. If however you believe that other ways may bear fruit then say so.........

I've engaged in constructive debate all along. You are the one who does not like another person having a different point of view to your own. That can be clearly seen in your posts in previous pages.

I have a different view to you with regard to 'industrial relations' (for want of a better word), and the use of strikes. We agree to disagree. Nothing more complicated than that.

I will be interested to find out how you do a lot better. I've enjoyed this to-ing and fro-ing in the last few minutes, as I suspect you have also.

I just try to put across another view .......

I have not said I believe that just going on strike will 'win'. Please do not attempt to put words, or thoughts, into my posts when they are not there. That immediately becomes an invalid premise.

As I posted before, I have been involved in matters from both the TU side and the Management side. I have seen the good and the bad sides of negotiation by both sides, from both sides. I have seen rank bad Management practises that had to be challenged, and I have seen rank bad TU representation, which was a shame for the individual concerned.

So do you really believe that the Doctors current plan will change the mind of the government ?.........

pete,
Let me say this.

I bear no malice whatsoever towards you.

I hope the exchange of views has been interesting for those who have looked in on our exchange. It may make them think a little deeper about issues.

From my side, may healthy debate and exchange of views be a continuing vital ingredient of this forum.

And finally, I'm sure we both hope the Blues can mallet the Mancs in the late afternoon next Sunday!!!
