General strike/protest

No, it means that staff who were scheduled to have a day off will be called in. Those who were scheduled to be doing paperwork will have to work on the shop floor. Non essential procedures will get cancelled so that staff are freed up for emergency care.

All manageable for short periods of time. Not sustainable long term.
Well I feel much better now you've put me straight in how the NHS will deal with this and not course any danger to patients. You do have all the links backing this up I presume, whereas I don't need any links or proof as its bleeding obvious striking docs cancelled ops are going to increase the odds of something going wrong

The responsibility lies with the Government. I have never met a medical professional who chose their career for financial gain.

This is a political decision by Hunt, it is he and his team who are playing politics with the lives of patients.

Rather than consider the cost of everything, why can't the Government consider the marginal increase in cost of providing a true 7 day health system as an investment in the country's well being.

Better health care equals better health outcomes which reduces health and benefit costs in the future. It's time the Government accepted this and moved on from blind political dogma.

I accept all of that. But it still isn't Hunt that's going out on strike. It's the Doctors. It isn't the Government ( normally a business and it's shareholders) who will suffer, it's not like doing without bread or milk for a day, this is really serious stuff, life threatening, for many people. This is beyond any political point scoring Esk.........they should NOT do it......

No Pete, it's the Government who have made an arbitrary decision to impose terms, not Junior Doctors.

That's the issue here, if Hunt had any concern for the well being of patients he would not attempt to impose a 'solution' in the full knowledge of the likely consequences of such an imposition.

Forget about anyones child, think about what is good for the NHS in the long run. I get that you believe they shouldn't strike and can understand that, but when the whole medical profession are saying this is not good in the long run then I believe patient care will be better served to not impose a contract on juniors but to ensure you work together with them to ensure the service is as safe to the public as possible. If they had come out and said they're changing the Consultant contract to make sure there is more senior cover at the weekend then I would be in full support because that would make the NHS safer at the weekend. The juniors have always been there at the weekend and always will. Cutting their money whilst not actually changing anything resource wise will not make anything safer for the public.

I would not forget about anyones child. If the Doctors feel they know what's best for the NHS then fine, find a way to do it, even if it means taking a pay cut. But don't put patients lives at risk, that is the worst form of labour withdrawal that is possible.......

With all due respect, you appear to be arguing that something must be true because it appears obvious to you, whilst totally ignoring so many contributions in this thread. The doctors have given plenty of notice. It's now down to the employer to provide the service. Imagine if theyd only given the required 7 days.

You are sticking with the politics.....to withdraw medical assistance is the worst form of selfishness I can think of.....it's not on......and there will be some on here who will feel this when it happens.........

More faux outrage. Foodbanks usage up. Child poverty up. Bedroom tax implemented. Children suffering up and down the country under this government.

That's OK then......plenty of notice......mustn't get ill on that day or have an accident.......

Worse selfishness than cutting taxes for the rich whilst removing disability benefit?

Again, nice try. Stick to the point or answer my previous question, which you have now avoided over about 3-4 pages.....in case you forgot

So in a period of war, you would be happy for our armed forces to go on strike..........

You chose to ignore the answers because you don't like them.
