The sheer disrespect to us we should lump Big Sam and accept being 7th forever, this is the narrative. But we spent 250m+ shouldn't we at least build towards more?It may take two or three seasons but we need to try. Keeping Sam is admitting mediocrity and allowing him to continue to anchor us in it with his words and actions.

Shame some Everton fans haven't learnt the art of diplomacy.

We should thank Sam for steering us to a top half position in the league and encourage him time off in the final year of his contract as a reward. Then get a top class manager, whose values align to Everton fan's, in for next season and beyond.

See not too difficult, is it?

No, we shouldn’t

Crooks' views are characteristic of every pundit who does not actually watch the teams they talk about. There is no way he sits and watches 90 minutes of Everton week in, week out if he cannot understand the dislike for Allardyce's brand of football or understand the desire of many for a change in manager. Instead they drift along on the vague media narrative and reinforce it through selective highlights.

He's exactly the kind of pundit who would have claimed that Everton were playing good football for the last month or so of Martinez - way behind what's actually happening in the moment.

Everton's current position in the table is symptomatic of the number of Premier League teams who struggle to find any kind of consistency and how tight things are between sides in the bottom two thirds. Burnley went 11 games without a win and in that time went from 7th to....7th. That winless run was ended with a victory over a very poor Allardyce side.

When Allardyce was appointed many of us would gladly have took 8th place given what had gone before. But that's entirely different from saying 8th place should mean we stick with him.

The firefighter has put the fire out, now get the architect and builder in.
