I must be a mentalist, I watched the new episode and absolutely loved it. I then didn't analyse the strategic battle decisions in a show where a woman rides on a dragon and a man is resurrected from death by a 900 year old woman.
You forget the bit where the man gets his hand chopped off and doesnt die of blood loss.

Don't get me wrong. I liked the episode. I think its becoming "hip" to dislike the show's direction. I can set aside my disbelief and know that when (if) the books are finished, I'll get the detailed story I want.
But plot holes are aplenty.

Sansa asked for the Vale to come and help but never told Jon about it. So she could have saved a good 1000 lives if she wasn't a complete idiot and told her brother she had a few thousand cavalry on the way.

Been said before by others. If john had known about the troops then he would have compensated for them, meaning the element of suprise would be gone ala gandalf style. I think the logical viewpoint on it is that Sansa could not have known john wouldn't give the game away and therefore as she was literally last chance saloon 'won't be taken back there alive', she knew a couple of thousand caverly coming out of nowhere to smash through the bolton army would give her a massive advantage.
and personally my opinion is that as a character she is seizing control of things, rather than go along with it all as she has done before. She got that army, she told them when to arrive and she effectively won the battle. I have a small theory she will be lady stone heart, ilbiet not mute.
