I am curious where they take the story from here. The whole series was leading up to this battle and predictably Starks control winterfell again. I would imagine Stansa would have to become lady of winterfell and possibly produce an heir, so maybe that is part of little fingers plan after all? But then that is long term arc rather than short term.

John is a little bit here and there now. Thew whole story was leading up to him leading the battle and dying before that. Where does he go from here? He isnt going north again to fight the walkers yet, and he can't go south. Yet if he stays where he is then there is nothing to do? Perhaps poor storytelling going on there?

Dany going to war with Baelon on her way over to westeros? Consdering she has dragons and Baelon won't expect her to attack him, that battle won't last very long with all three dragons out in the field now. Only way about it is to twist and have her turn on theon and yara (ala the mad king) or one of the dragons die in the battle with baelon. Either way not very exciting progression there.

and finally, small prediction. perhaps the reason why Lady stoneheart is not been introduced is because she is already in it, STANSA!! Make her into a tough merciless lady of winterfell from now on. Really let her character take her experiences and turn them into a strong and powerful character? It makes sense for them to do it like that, and it means she becomes a significant character in the show compared to being a bit crap before now.
Greyjoy? The uncle? Kinda big character in that storyline?
You mean Euron.

The Mereen scenes were ace as well despite Danerys' acting/lines
I thought she was a little bit off in the episode.

Like they are teasing her becoming her dad in the early stages. she seemed different than before though, but more in a forced way rather than a natural way like sansa has been

I've been fighting that battle in my head for 2 days now and I have to say, in my armchair general opinion, poor tactics all around, especially Ramsay who criminally misused his cavalry and Phalanx spearmen.
Harsh on Ramsay given that the storyline couldn't let him win. He toyed with Jon Snow as only Ramsay could , made his movements at the right time , nearly pounded the life out of Jon and was in the process of squeezing the life out of the Freemen/Starks when the cavalry turned up.
The bit with Jon Snow struggling to get out from a mass of bodies reminded me of a Robin Williams film, can't remember name, where he was struggling to get out of purgatory by climbing over masses of bodies.
Great episode in my book.

Can I remind people to use the spoiler tags as some wont have watched the episode yet
Both were poor really. I'd have used the massive number of archers to pepper John and co. until they were forced to leave their protected position.

Get out the thread then? Bit of an odd place to hang about in when you know an episode just been on lol

side note, apparently they are only doing 6-7 episodes in the final 2 seasons? That is terrible, shows how bad the writing is when they can't fill a season so they make one season and show it over 2 years.

No mate.
just use the spoiler tags so you don't ruin it for anyone, its not like its a specific thread for this weeks episode so people who aren't up to date will wander in.
Be a good sport.

to be fair i personally don't post anything specific without a tag. try to word my answers that says nothing.

Yeah well I wasn't directing it specifically at you was I. Over the last page or two theres a couple posts I'd class as spoilery so was a general reminder to use the spoiler tags.

He had a squadron of Phalanx spearmen with large shields and spears. Should have used them against Jon's cavalry and used his own cavalry to flank and finish of the unarmoured wildlings (Kind of like how Tormund says to Davos "Remember that time you and Stannis battered us with your cavalry").

If he'd done that he would have finished them quick and been able to draw up into proper battle formation when the Vale showed up.
