Ramsey does what Ramsey wants
Exactly. It's to illustrate how vile the character doing the raping is.

I don't see how people think that it's meant to titilate. It was similar to how Godfrey murdered Ros. They're setting up Ramsey for the audience's satisfaction when they more than likely kill him.

btw - I haven't read the books so I don't know what will happen.

It doesn't. Sansa doesn't go anywhere near Winterfell in the book, and Ramsey is married off to a fake Arya Stark so he can stake his claim on the North.

ah ok, sounds like a way of keeping characters involved but not having too many storylines, perfectly reasonable thing for a tv adaption to do

I read the books first and loved them , Game of thrones has done them proud, but this series has been a disaster ! 7 episodes in and it's boring me to death.
I read they had twice the budget for last season as this one so it's probably in large part down to that.

It's definitely a "filler" season whose purpose is to move the plot and character arcs along after the huge cull last year setting itself up for perhaps an awesome final season.

Oh, the book is a mess as far as I'm concerned. A Feast for Crows has an interesting subplot with Jaime and nothing else. A Dance With Dragons is incredibly forgettable and introduces a whole range of needless subplots until it's over and everyone is in exactly the same place as they were at the end of the third book. There's one character in ADWD I would have liked to have seen, but I accept they have to streamline it. The books really became stagnant imo, and I like the fact that the series is moving things on, albeit with a few missteps. That effing fight in the garden.

lol that was so bad..

so this could be case of people over-rating the source material...

hodor

The Jaime scene with Cersei betrayed his character and was completely out of sync with what we know about him.
yeah the jamie one is the one that really bothered me as it was so out of character and his development. Sansa's is pointless and gratuitous to a degree as shes no where near Ramsay in the books. Although Ramsay probably would do exactly the same in the book as in show if sansa was forced to marry him. Saw quite a few posts about it on some other sites but Dany was basically raped a few times at the start of her marriage w/khal drogo so the show didn't add that bit.

saw this somewhere and thought it was ace.

I think the Sansa rape will also provide a purpose in driving Sansa's character development forward a bit, callous her as it were.
I reckon they'll use it as a ploy to drive her into the arms of Littlefinger as he swoops in and saves her from her hell.

It wasn't rape but rather a brutish way of having sex however again it was to show the character progression of Drogo from Primitive Man to loving husband and Danny's ability to use love and forgiveness to change people.

None of this is simply thrown in to tititalte. It's all there for a reason. GOTs is very much a morality driven story with a messsage. However without the darkness you can't see the light.
