It works on many levels as most art does and yes softcore porn is one of those however it's wrong to say that's the only level.

A Pope ran around the vatican breaking off all the little penises for exactly the same reason.

If you are comparing it to the book then I can understand however I haven't read the books. I might after the show ends but I don't want to ruin it :)

I prefer to see these adaptions as their own creations.
 
I thought the scenes in Winterfell and at the wall in the most recent episode were absolutely stunning visually

true. i've been pretty open to them being separate things but sometimes it does nothing to advance the plot or character development. also i meant *wasn't thrown in out of the blue
