Exactly. It's to illustrate how vile the character doing the raping is.

I don't see how people think that it's meant to titilate. It was similar to how Godfrey murdered Ros. They're setting up Ramsey for the audience's satisfaction when they more than likely kill him.

btw - I haven't read the books so I don't know what will happen.
Ramsey storyline in the books is a mystery involving a character that is now not in the show anymore. so Ramsey from here on out is on. A separate storyline altogether.

so it may follow the typical show format or it may go in a different direction to the story writers interest. but basically Ramsey and the books are completely separate now they have removed that character from it

the actor playing in him is pretty good, so i wonder if thats part of the reason for keeping him as a main character(although i dont know how he's used in the books...)

whos the character not in it anymore? or is that spoilery??

I'm sure the fact the actor is very good plays a role in extending his arc. The same was for Ros.

If you answer that @Ashtonian use a spoiler.

lol that was so bad..

so this could be case of people over-rating the source material...
I really do encourage you to read them yourself and draw your own conclusions - but definitely AFTER the show has finished. I couldn't disagree more with @Prevenger17 's assessment of AFFC and ADWD. Yes they are very different in style and pacing than the first three, but the multitude of storylines and the subtle ways that they interlink are an absolute delight IMHO.

yeah the jamie one is the one that really bothered me as it was so out of character and his development. Sansa's is pointless and gratuitous to a degree as shes no where near Ramsay in the books. Although Ramsay probably would do exactly the same in the book as in show if sansa was forced to marry him. Saw quite a few posts about it on some other sites but Dany was basically raped a few times at the start of her marriage w/khal drogo so the show didn't add that bit.
Currently re-reading the first book and I can assure you, Khal Drogo doesn't rape Dany.

would be ok to read the first couple? thinking of doing this for a while now..

Presuming you're up to date on the tv show, you could definitely read the first two books without spoiling anything.

cheers , will do...just finishing 1st law trilogy(very good, have you read it? similar in some ways to GoT) so will do after that

It works on many levels as most art does and yes softcore porn is one of those however it's wrong to say that's the only level.

A Pope ran around the vatican breaking off all the little penises for exactly the same reason.

Whatever helps you justify tossing off to it whilst dressed as an elf mate x

for the books yeah. its someone who was in the north though that isn't in the show now.

In fact there is a lot of cut storyline revolving about the character which shocked me when they left the series so quick!

no point in extending it mate , agree with you and @neil999 that the actor is really good in the role do as good a reason as any to change his storyline.

personally I am gutted they put sanza there with him because it would have been better to drive him another way to maintain him in the series. I highly doubt sanza leaves with both of them alive now
