The 'Sansa' one was disgraceful and pointless.Thronecast is usually complete bobbins, but a good point was raised tonight - there have been several scenes involving major female characters being raped, none of which are scenes in the original books. Furthermore, the rape scenes in question have served absolutely no purpose in terms of character development or plot progress. Thus far they appear to have been totally gratuitous, and two of the three examples given happened far enough back now that there is not going to be any significant twist that allows the audience to view them as anything other than titillation.
The talking head who raised the subject said that the third rape had the possibility of being a plot device leading to one of two possible significant character developments. She went on to say that if it proved to be of no plot significance, or served only to develop the male character's arc, she would be re-evaluating her relationship with the show. I think she has a pretty valid point.
