Thronecast is usually complete bobbins, but a good point was raised tonight - there have been several scenes involving major female characters being raped, none of which are scenes in the original books. Furthermore, the rape scenes in question have served absolutely no purpose in terms of character development or plot progress. Thus far they appear to have been totally gratuitous, and two of the three examples given happened far enough back now that there is not going to be any significant twist that allows the audience to view them as anything other than titillation.

The talking head who raised the subject said that the third rape had the possibility of being a plot device leading to one of two possible significant character developments. She went on to say that if it proved to be of no plot significance, or served only to develop the male character's arc, she would be re-evaluating her relationship with the show. I think she has a pretty valid point.

The 'Sansa' one was disgraceful and pointless.

getting to point of complete stupidity now !
Haven't even seen tonight's but its complete shat!

Why do you put yourself through it Pal?

I think people who have read the books and get upset don't understand you can't actually make things like books without changing them. Eight pages of a characters thoughts don't translate into a watchable experience. It may feel that way, but whole stretches of things that make sense in the train of thought through the book do not make for comfortable viewing. The idea that 'oh that doesn't make sense because the book did it this way' might not make sense because you don't have the insight into how this can actually physically work to people who haven't read the books. But i haven't read all the books yet and it makes perfect sense.

The ridiculous amount of money it takes to make these things is also something that norms don't appreciate. Throughout episode 5, or 6 I forget, Stannis has a Army of thousands camped at Castle Black. You only see three or four Soldiers every now and then until the end, when they leave, and then you get a composite effects shot of the Army leaving. Also, the Directors helming Season 5 are all new to the Thrones series, all except the last two episodes.

I think the introduction of the High Sparrow, Arya @ The Faceless Men and the Boltons in Winterfell rooting Sansa are brilliant plotlines. I know the Sand Snakes wasn't the best shot piece, but the point of it is to have a more light-hearted storyline / bromance which serves to complete Jamie Lannisters transition, while introducing the Dornish to the table.

As soon as the shows form dips, I'll be disappointed, but it hasn't happened yet.

I was quite impressed with that lady to be honest,I bet the producers and Sue Perkins went into a cold sweat when she started.

that is odd...

tbf we dont yet know why they are doing it, maybe they thought that was the best way of showing the awful experiences they are having without being to do POV stuff like in the books??
