Fellaini wants to leave Everton?

One of the worst != the worst.

Then I'd direct you to all of the other fields which he wins in.

Not a defensive player, utterly hilarious.

It is unfortunate that the chart does not have a column for losing his runner and putting the defence under unnecessary strain.

I hope I'm wrong, but unfortunately we will see how great Fellaini is when he drops deep and plays CM in the next few games.

Also he doesn't have the best statistics for winning the ball? He has the second best tackles won only behind Parker by 2 and far more than Song, Barry and Tiote. The only other 2 individual stats in that first section he isn't number one in, he's number 2 and 3.

How anyone can look at that and argue he's a better player going forward whilst also arguing he's not even a good defensive player, well... it's amazing. It stinks of someone with an existing opinion who refuses to acknowledge anything -- even facts -- that conflict with said opinion.

It's also worth noting that for all the dispossessed talk (I have to ask why Animal Farm is picking out that one stat as if it makes all his other superb defensive stats null and void) he has the second best loss of possession stat, behind only Barry.

Perhaps the most interesting stat for me though is that, despite the fact that he was involved in a lot of fouls and spent so much time challenging for the ball, he has the best card record in those stats, with 5 yellows and no reds. He's certainly refined his tackling technique a lot.

I feel sorry for these appalling news outlets regurgitating what an obscure Belgian newspaper quoted.

The funniest one was "Man Utd on alert"...

I mean did a Manchester united representative ring up and say they'd just like to confirm they are on alert?

So what are they actually telling us?

Christ on a bike while Jesus wept.

They tried to but they had no credit so he is staying

You are refusing to acknowledge his main problem; his propensity to fail in tracking his runner and putting his defence under unnecessary strain. Unfortunately, the chart does not have a column for that very serious part of defensive midfield play.

Arteta Fan calls it right when he describes Fellaini as a destructive midfielder but not a great defensive one. Defensive play is about more than winning tackles, tracking your runners and preventing a pass is every bit, if not more important. But I don't expect you to acknowledge that.

I am very much convinced that Moyes prefers to play him as ACM, and he will return there once Gibson gets fit. Until then, we can all watch in wonderment as Fellaini continues to adequately protect our defence.

So to confirm, statistics are only worth mentioning when they fit your view.

Also. Is anyone in the least Suprised? We have sold assets for the last few years, an that will continue as we have seen.

No, but there are lies, damn lies and then statistics.

And tracking your runner is a pretty damn important part of defensive football. Would you not agree?

Why isn't there a column for that very important part of defensive football?

If we goes we best get at least 25m for him ffs.

But I bet you anything we don't, anything at all.

Mhmm. No I can, and I have already, I just think like I said before that you've exaggerated it. I think you're doing him a disservice in that department, but hey, without facts I guess you have to resort to things which are pretty much impossible to conclusively disprove.

To be honest I've never said I want Felli to be a defensive mid, per se. My point is that I feel he's better in central midfield than attacking midfield. He has great ball winning abilities and no so great offensive abilities... I don't see the problem. He can do a job at ACM against certain opposition no doubt, but the best parts of his game are useless there for the most part. You really need guile in that role when you need to unlock a defence, as was shown against West Brom.

To reiterate, I do not think Fellaini is best as a strict DM. I just prefer him in central midfield -- that is not necessarily as a DM, as you seem to think. Box to box mid, whatever you want to call it -- I do struggle for a term here as Fellaini's vast skillset and idiosyncracies make him somewhat unique.

Let's be honest here, Gibson isn't a DM either. When Felli partnered Gibson last year neither was a strict DM, like say Neville is. I'm not even sure what to call Darron, as he shows elements of being a water carrier, an anchor man, a deep lying playmaker. But that's another topic.
