Right, you both make the same point.

If, if if.

He doesn't get the plum seats because for whatever talent he showed early on, he scuppered his own career be being a bit petulant/not a team player.

Yeah, Vettel got lucky. But he was quick enough to make the most of his luck.

As for he'd win as many titles as Hamilton in the Merc? We'll never know.

Trying to decide which driver is better is always going to include "if's" unless they happened to race for the same team. Higher wins/championships are a good indication but don't always mean the driver is better than another with less. Statistically Vettel is superior but to a man most would say Alonso is the better driver.

There were doubts regarding Seb even when he was winning but his stock has fallen as he was soundly beaten by Ricciardo and LeClerc. Alonso has never had that happen to him.

People are allowed to think what they think of course but Hamilton has done really nothing wrong in his career or life to get that much hate directed at him. From a personal point of view I've got to celebrate 99 wins and more decent examples of driving. Everton have struggled to give me that many happy weekends in that time frame. Some of you guys are missing out on possibly the greatest sportsperson to come from these shores.
The hate he gets is a disgrace. It’s embarrassing how much he is maligned by people in this country in particular. He’s incredibly talented and is the ultimate professional.

But Schumacher was the driving force behind rebuilding Ferrari. Lewis just walked in at Mercedes like he walked in at McLaren. Lewis is the best driver of his generation, but lacks the all round skills of Schumacher, who was a real leader. He even laid race wins on a plate for Eddie Irvine when he came back from a broken leg.
Lewis stepped in to Mercedes when they were newcomers to F1 and propelled them to where they are now. It was very brave to leave McLaren at that time, with most people in the sport surprised by the decision. He certainly didn’t walk in to a ready made championship team on a plate.

I disagree about the comparisons to Schumacher. Hamilton has always had very competitive team mates. Hamilton has also won championships when his car wasn’t the best in the field. The least competitive he’s had is probably Bottas. Alonso, Raikonnen and Rosberg are all championship winning drivers. Barrichello offered nothing like the internal competition to Schumacher that Lewis has ever had to contend with.

How long have people tried to compare drivers for and we come to the same conclusion that u cant ever prove your theories with evidence.

Just enjoy the battle of today. We will see who is the best driver at the end of every year. Whether that is skill, or decision making based on what machinery they are driving.

Very true, never saw Jim Clark race only started watching when Mansell was driving ( probably still my fav driver that red 5 will always stick in my memory) but when you listen to the older drivers they put Clark up with the very best there’s ever been that includes Schumacher and Senna.

He brushes off the point about Verstappen having the opportunity to give space on the apex, but that's actually very important with this - because Hamilton has drew near enough level going in, Verstappen has to redress his approach IMO and not just defend the racing line, because there's a car there.

I actually thought it was Hamiltons fault, but the punishment was quite adequate. It was close to a racing incident, but Hamilton should know much better - especially on such a corner. However, I don't feel like punishments should be dealt based on the damage to the opposing car...it's the equivalent of saying Pickford shouldn't come back till VVD does.

He does alter his approach, he sees Hamilton just about level, then quickly turns left to give a little space and then turns back into the corner. He could have left more space or turned in a tiny bit later but you would naturally expext Hamilton to be hitting his apex but Hamilton overcooked entry a smidgen and missed the apex by a fair bit. If Hamilton hits his apex its probable there would have been no contact.

Verstappens error was racing too hard when he perhaps didn’t need to given his lead in the championship and car advantage but thats why he is great to watch.

No he didn't. He walked in after Schumacher and Rosberg had done all the donkey work developing the car.

I don't remember Kimi being Lewis' teammate. I do remember Heikki Kovalainen though, who was absolutely awful.

And they got 3 wins and 9 podiums that season. How many seasons ahead was Schumacher developing this car? And of course it has nothing to do with the fact Mercedes built the strongest power unit when it switched to hybrid motors.
