Michaels longest standing team mate was Barrichello, a guy he could dominate in the same way Hamilton dominates Bottas.

Barrichello was also outperformed at Brawn by Button, one of Hamiltons team mates.

Another one of Schumachers team mates was Rosberg, who outperformed him... now admittedly that's an unfair comparison because Schumacher was past his best then but still, he was no slouch as shown by his qualifying at Monaco.

Im not trying to crap on Schumacher, im just saying that stat padding can be levelled against him as well. So long as you have a team mate you can dominate the accusation can be levelled, i don't think its fair to do so but you have to be consistent with it if you are going to criticise people for stat padding.
But Schumacher was the driving force behind rebuilding Ferrari. Lewis just walked in at Mercedes like he walked in at McLaren. Lewis is the best driver of his generation, but lacks the all round skills of Schumacher, who was a real leader. He even laid race wins on a plate for Eddie Irvine when he came back from a broken leg.

Ross Brawn was the driving force behind Ferraris resurgence and also Benettons success, both of which significantly benefitted Michael Schumacher.

Alonso was better than any of Schumacher's teammates. Fahct.
Obviously, but McLaren we’re not treating Alonso fairly, and Hamilton finished even on points with Fernando. You can say Alonso had more experience, but that must have been very difficult to deal with psychologically.

But peak Schumacher was better than both. Alonso could not develop a winning Ferrari like Schumacher, and Hamilton did not develop the winning Mercedes.

Brawn was Schumacher’s engineer, and hired by Ferrari at Schumacher’s request. Unlike today, there was unlimited testing, and Schumacher was the hardest working person on the team.

I’ve worked with Michael and knew what he was like and the standards he maintained and I knew the levels he worked to,” said Brawn in an interview for the official F1 website. “Those guys hadn’t.”

Among those who were initially unsure about Schumacher was Jock Clear, who had been Jacques Villeneuve’s race engineer when Schumacher collided with the Williams driver while trying to beat him to the 1997 world championship.

“Jock Clear who was Villeneuve’s engineering when Michael and Villeneuve came together, almost hated Michael with a passion, yet became one of Michael’s closest friends when Michael came to the team and worked with him,” said Brawn.

“Michael’s work ethic, discipline and application just won everyone over. It raised the standard of the team in knowing what they could or should be doing. I think I had an impact but Michael had just as much, even more impact on the team when he came and worked there.

“Andrew Shovlin said to me, especially when they won their first world championship and I was talking to him about it, he said Michael had an awful lot to do with us winning this world championship.”

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff described Schumacher as “one of the founding fathers of the success we have had in the last five years.”

“There is no other driver like him and his vast experience contributed tremendously in the development of our team,” Wolff added. “He played a crucial role when we rejoined F1 and was one of the people who laid the foundation for our future success. We’re extremely grateful for everything he did for us.”

You should check out the F1 podcast with Paddy Lowe who has worked with both drivers, he compares their strengths etc

He was not merely his engineer!! Technical director at Ferrari and along with Adrian Newey, the leading technical forces in F1 in the 90s and 00s.
Brawn was responsible for the organisational structure at Ferrari that enabled Schumachers success.

Jean Todt also worked hard to assemble that team and then keep the usual politics out the way long enough to see the fruits of it. It wasn't just Schumacher, it was a collection of very good people that made it so successful.

It also helps that there was one tyre supplier that was making specific tyres to suit that one car/driver and that Ferrari have their own track.

Jackie Stewart knows the score, as a former team principal and driver himself. Speaking in 2006:

"Michael brought Ferrari from 21 years of not winning a world title to being champions many times," said Stewart.

"I put that down much more to him than president Luca di Montezemolo or team boss Jean Todt. Without Michael Schumacher it would not have happened.

"Michael's greatest skill has been able to motivate people to come with him and raise the bar to create the best car that he could drive and get the success they wish to have.

"Generally speaking, I think it's true to say he re-shaped Ferrari and made the Ferrari the car it is today.

"Of course, (technical director) Ross Brawn had a lot to do with it. Of course, (designer) Rory Byrne had a lot to do with it. But nevertheless that's an extraordinary motor car."
