Missed the race sadly but just saw the incident... don't get the criticism from Horner, just a racing incident to me between two very talented drivers with a will to win. Pulling out by either of them in that scenario would be a very 'Bottas' thing to do.

Hamilton got lucky he wasn't the one shunted out, Max didn't. C'est la vie.

What a surprise that Horner is a massive hypocrite

Max has unfollowed Lewis on instagram and now his girlfriend has got involved. Best drama since the Rosberg days.
Absolute child.

Honestly think this could send him back a couple of years mentally.

He fully expected Hamilton back out and suffered the consequences.

He's improved so much with his race maturity over the past season and a half, but this might tip him over the edge.

Struck me as a 50/50 with the blame maybe marginally leaning towards Hamilton but I wouldn't have been surprised if there had been no penalty.

Adds a lovely bit of needle to the rest of the season and with the weekend Perez had it gives the Constructors a good competitive boost as well.

Exactly how I saw it really. It was the Mercedes straight line speed combined with a relatively flat corner which has done it. Once Hamilton has got level after making that much ground he'd have assumed Max would have to leave room on the inside as long as Hamilton left room on the outside.

For me, Max is simply too aggressive and has misunderstood the pace advantage Hamilton had.

Always happens. Young aggressive driver comes into F1 and makes aggressive moves. The older drivers put up with it for a while, and then get fed up and make a stand. The same thing happened to Ricciardo, stuck it down the inside a few times and got hailed as a genius. Then the other drivers got fed up and closed the door and he crashed a few times and he as never been the same since. Verstappen has been reliant on Hamilton backing out of corners several times. He should have known that at the British Grand Prix he wouldn't. Verstappen was all over the track throughout the lap, blocking off and driving at Hamilton rather than taking the racing line, but for once it caught up with him. I hope he's ok, because there might be a title fight on now, which had looked unlikely.

Hamilton well and truly li ing rent free now inside Max's head.

Did we not see the exact same thing yesterday but flip the cars around in the sprint race?

Lewis on the outside and yielded because Max was down the inside??

Honestly, the Anti Lewis/Max love in is like a proper little cult isnt it. Red Bull and Max behave so similarly to our loveable neighbours it's almost uncanny. Never their fault and its OK when they do it to somebody else.

Gloves off and I love it!

OK, here's my take on it.

Racing incident, but probably 60/40 Hamilton's fault in all fairness. He chances it and leaves his car in there and there's going to be contact if neither of them backs off. Hamilton has a right to try to drive down the inside, but Max only gives enough room to avoid a collision if Hamilton backs out.

The thing is with racing incidents that it is the driver chasing who nearly always shoulders most of the blame if there is a collision or contact - You always give the benefit of the doubt to the leading car. That is why an overtaking driver always need to be extra sure when attempting a pass that they have a better than 50/50 chance.

Had the contact been slightly different and it was Hamilton's race that was ended, I don't think Verstappen gets a penalty because he's leading.

So, racing incident, yes, but a 10s penalty is fair and in line with precedent that appears to have been set by the stewards in recent times.

But all in all I'm glad that the race went the way it did, because it rebalances both championships beautifully, and because Max has in the past driven a bit too aggressively without anyone saying "enough", so has had it coming. He'll think twice about how he defends from now on. It's all a part of the evolution of a F1 driver.

Indeed. I think that's fine. What happens after that is Verstappen makes a move across, Hamilton drops, Verstappen is too close and tyres collide. As you can see below, Verstappen angles his car inside to cut him off.

It's a racing incident for me. Both drivers aggressive, but Hamilton had reason to be because of pace going into a wide turn, and Verstappen tried what he did repeatedly through several corners prior in cutting off Hamilton - on this occasion, Hamilton stayed firm. Verstappen had the option of taking the space on the outside and didn't take it.
