Everton Youth Teams Thread

..once it gets to U21 level, I think the picture starts to change and we see more players getting games at Premiership level.

a good few of that u21 squad arent getting much game time, mainly the ones that havent went out on loan from a PL team. lewis cook for instance, think hes captain of the u21s and has only played league cup games. strange cos he always looks a good player and bournemouth are crap!

..I think there's a genuine strategy to try and keep the World Cup winning group together, otherwise I doubt Kenny and Dowell in particular would make the squad. The other RB I would throw in the mix is Kyle Walker-Peters. I know he played LB in the World Cup Final but I think he made a successful debut for Spurs in his natural RB berth.

Agreed, you could argue a few of the u20 lads could of been promoted to the u21s earlier, but it seems the u20 was the target tournament.
Id advise not to rush any of these lads into the full squad if a surge of form appears and just hold off for a while and atleast let them play an u21 tournament together, build a unity in a group

Always amazes me that so many other academies are stuffed with signed in players from overseas pro-clubs.

We've got Iverson (and Hansen but he wasn't from a pro club) but United have 5 (at least) in that squad.

Everton u18s 0-0 with Man utd u18s at half time-Hansen our keeper made a good save from a 1on 1 just before ht from a mason greenwood chance, mampala basically miskicked with a chance about 5 or so yards out with players around him from a corner that the wind held up,he was almost not expecting the ball, plus man utd keeper made another good save earlier on in the game,Anderson twice going close for us as well

I guess the counter argument is that if you spot that you have poor years coming through early, u15, u16 s say are poor then you can do something about it in the u18s rather than in the U23s . Apply that to us and you'd have to say that we've had poor u18s in the past few seasons, and as a result this season our U23s is chock full of players we signed from other clubs and were not with us as 1st year Scholars at 16.
We could nearly put out an U23s team of outfielders that we've bought in , just missing another defender e.g. Foulds, Gibson, Markelo, xxx; Adeniran , Bowler, Donkor; Henen , Mathis, Sambou. I've put a bit of license into their playing positions but it illustrates that we sometimes have very few "home grown" players in our U23s . Maybe Utd have tackled the problem earlier , we've done it later and spent money in doing so .
None of the current u18s are putting their hands up as being ready to play in the U23s , which is something that marks out good players at an early age, the ability to play up an age or two. Maybe Gordon will be the one this season. I love watching the 18s /23s if I can get a stream but I accept that our strategy now is to buy in young players if we like them or have identified a weakness in our teams.

1-1 man utd on 60 - Ramazani there sub with goal, should be 2-0 for everton a min before really

Greenwood shoots wide min after the equaliser when he shoudl put man utd ahead

Simms on 66 twice makes the man utd keeper save point blank
