Everton Youth Teams Thread

Just seen this tweet from Gethin Jones , confirming it was a nasty injury but thankfully not a leg break

"Thankfully no break, no op needed! just rest & rehab going to be a while, but better than 1st feared. Thank you for all the messages"

Hopefully he'll be back by December in time to get a needed loan in January , please don't send him to Sunderland.....

Nice praise from Boothroyd:

“If you think about Dominic’s rise, a year ago he was playing for Sheffield United and then went on loan to Northampton. He came with us with the U20s, played against Brazil and the next minute, he earned himself a £1 million move to Everton and he has kicked on since then.

He has scored in a [U20] World Cup final and it has been amazing few months for him, but he wouldn’t be able to do that if he hadn’t had the opportunity.

Everton have given him that. Tom Davies has broken through too; Jonjoe Kenny is on the periphery, waiting to bang the door down; Ademola Lookman has gone in and done really well too. The more they play, the more game-time and experience they get, the better.

“Everton seem to be a club that will give youth a chance, give it a go. They just passed 1,000 consecutive games with an Everton graduate in their squad and I think that’s brilliant and a great pat on the back for their Academy.”

Good news if we can tie down Baningime.

Everton poised to offer 19-year-old midfielder Beni Baningime new deal amid interest from Manchester United
  • Everton want to tie down 19-year-old midfielder Beni Baningime to a new deal
  • The promising youngster has attracted the likes of Manchester United
  • He was recognised as an upcoming talent at the club last season
  • His current deal is set to run out next summer and the Blues want to keep him
Everton are poised to offer a new contract to promising young midfielder Beni Baningime.

The Congo-born holding player has been attracting attention from other Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, after a string of impressive displays for Everton's U23s — who won the Premier League 2 title last season.

Coach David Unsworth has compared him to N'Golo Kante at Chelsea.

Baningime, 19, won the Keith Tamlin award last year which recognises upcoming talents at the club.

He signed his first professional contract a year ago but is out of contract next summer and Everton want to tie him up on a new deal to stave off rival interest.

The teenager will hope to follow the likes of Tom Davies and break through into the first-team ranks under Ronald Koeman.

David Unsworth: 1,000-game milestone is because Everton give youngsters chances | Football News | Sky Sports

David Unsworth says Everton's willingness to give young players an opportunity is the reason behind them recording over 1,000 consecutive matches with an academy graduate in the squad.

Everton's recent 4-0 defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford was the 1,000th match in the sequence. Their squad included academy graduates Tom Davies and Wayne Rooney, as well as two players who joined the club as teenagers, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Mason Holgate.

Unsworth, now manager of Everton's U23 side, said: "We've always afforded young players opportunities. We recruit good players and we are in a really great area for raw talent.

"When you put them in this environment with great people, great coaches and, above all, an opportunity, that's when you get the players coming through. Without opportunity you have nothing."

Unsworth, who started the run of games when he played for the Toffees against Feyenoord in the European Cup Winners' Cup in October 1995, said the question he is asked most in his role is 'who's next?'.

However, he is reluctant to answer it, saying: "There are a couple, but I won't name names. It would be unfair to put added pressure on young players.

"But there are certainly a few of the lads who have made great strides over the past 18 months that we've got high expectations for."

As well as representing Everton over 300 times during his playing career, Unsworth has been a successful coach for the Merseyside club, with his youngsters winning the Premier League 2 last season.

Many of his players then progressed in the summer to help England to their first success on the world stage since 1966, when the U20s won the World Cup in their age group.

Calvert-Lewin, Kieran Dowell, Jonjoe Kenny, Callum Connolly and Ademola Lookman made up nearly a quarter of the Three Lions' squad.

Unsworth said: "The summer was a brilliant year for England as a whole. To have five lads involved in World Cup success and to see that picture of them at the end with the Everton flag, it was a very proud moment for this club."

Everton, now owned by Farhad Moshiri, have more spending power than ever before, and Unsworth concedes that has an effect on his work.

He said: "It raises the bar, not just for the players but for the staff. These players coming through have got to be better and that's a great challenge.

"This is a top club and, if you're talking about a young Everton player being in our first team, that goes hand in hand with being an international footballer. So, we are not just trying to produce players to compete in the Premier League, we are looking to produce top internationals."

hope he gets a new contract, got high hope for this lad, has everything a modern midfielder needs to be a success .

I see Anthony Gordon scores a lot for the 18's. Is he the next forward player we have big hopes for also what type of a player is he?

from the guardian next generation 2017:

Everton’s under-18s endured a painful night in the first ’mini-derby’ of the season recently – losing 3-1 to Steven Gerrard’s Liverpool at Kirkby, where Curtis Jones scored twice – but not before Gordon gave another demonstration of his potential. The attacking midfielder is developing a reputation for his ability to beat an opponent and clinical finishing, and both attributes were in evidence as he put Everton ahead against their local rivals. The 16-year-old was one of 12 academy graduates taken on full-time by Everton this summer. Andy Hunter

That is a quality lineup.
And behind this is an individually even more talented U17s/18 team with Lewis Gibson in it , it's chock full of attacking stars. Their defence is so good I'm not even sure Gibson will start in his preferred position of left centre back, it'll be between him and Chelsea's Panzo who can also play CB or left back . I think Gibson will edge it for CB, Panzo LB.
