We didn't tire yesterday. Nothing wrong with the fitness levels yesterday.

Oh arsenal just drew at Leicester. Are they as [Poor language removed] as us now? Ha....

Yes, actually. They have access to data you wouldn't believe. Mourinho is just the sort of manager who goes to that sort of precision, too. He always has been.

Chelsea couldn't of worked the ball quicker into our half if they tried in the opening stages. They passed it quickly and it had us on the ropes early on.

Now that the red mist has lifted and I'm seeing things more rationally I'm inclined to agree with you.

Whether in press conferences (which I didn't hear or read) or 'in private', Martinez said he was caught out by Chelsea's tactics and being 2-0 down so quickly was then forced to change tactics and change his game plan. We were outplayed, out manoeuverd and out thought and didn't help that our CB's and DM's had 'mares.

We actually played pretty well, a very very bad defensive day at the office and yeah obviously we need to work on it and tighten up but some people are over reacting, we dominated quite a bit of that game, more possession, more shots and corners, we were just all over the place in defence and i think letting 2 goals in with 3 minutes gone obviously didn't help with the confidence but we need to re group and get back to winning ways after this break.

I thought Costa was out of order when he had that jibe at Coleman after his OG and can understand why Howard had a go back. Watching match of the day and Danny Murphy complemented Costa on it. Was anyone else taken aback by this? I was quite surprised.

it was utter crap wasn't it?

complimenting someone for taking the piss out of someone who scored an OG. then he "stood up to howard" lol he had two players either side of him.

Whatever happened to the Everton that would close teams down in a hurry and harass them to no end? Ball watching? That's something that other teams do. We need to get back to that manner of urgency on the pitch.

Oh, and I'm still laughing out loud today that Besic backheel. That was comedy gold. Really it was. Just glad it happened in that match and not some 1-1 match where it really could of hurt. Hopefully some of the players are giving him a bit of playful stick for it in the dressing room. Maybe RM makes a point of it in the team meeting? Highlighting it from several different angles and speeds? I mean all you can do is laugh and move on (and of course learn from it.)

I'm totally .... befuddled by the whole game

For a start, I dont think I have ever seen such a comical refeering display since twazzenburg derby. but at least he was equally gash for both sides.

For what? 70-80 minutes we gave the presumed champions this year a proper ding dong match which I dont believe even the stats did justice to. Both sides proper at each others throats and could go either way in a proper thriller. Thats what footballs about!

On the other hand, we shipped 6! The defence was atrocious, but on the front foot we look like we will give anyone a proper pair of soiled briefs

Think it has to go down as "one of them games" and can only hope we get some steel back in defence by the next game. If we can do that - there's not a team we cant beat. WHATS OUR NAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

0-1 Jags should have stayed with Costa and Distin should have gone to the man rather than thinking of going behind Howard.
0-2 Baines shouldn't have tried to play offside so close to his own goal but the goal shouldn't have stood either.

Howard should have gone for handling outside the area.

1-3 A cruel blow. Coleman needs to start directing McCarthy and Howard shouldn't really have been beaten at his near post.

Howard should have been sent off again for grabbing Costa and putting his head into Azpilicueta.

2-4 Another deflection. Distin didn't close down quickly enough though.
3-5 We were taken apart too easily. I haven't seen it again but I imagine that Distin was out of position for Ramires to have so much space on the left.
3-6 Very poor from Besic. We shouldn't have committed so many men forward though.

A minute after we made it 4-3 Ramires restored their two goal advantage. If we'd have kept it tight then we could have got back into the game.

According to Soccerbase we had 7 shots on target to Chelsea's 8. When does a team ever score with 75% of their shots? The only one that wasn't around the 18 yard box was Matic's though, so Howard didn't stand much chance.

We had two thirds of possession but we were too sloppy. What does Roberto do next? I don't know where the offside trap has suddenly come from but we don't have the pressure on the ball to be able to play it effectively. I think that he'll stick with it and allow them to play themselves into form and fitness. At least we're scoring goals and that's always the hardest part.

Some good points there. Some I don't agree with though sorry.

Howard could have done better with a load of them but yeah shouldn't have been out in that position in the first place.

As for Coleman's OG, no way Howard's at fault. It deflected off Coleman. Impossible for Howard.

Agree with ya their, no keeper in the world would have stopped colemans deflection going in tbh mate as it was the definition of a fluke

What about 2-3 Naismiths top class finish from McGeady's lovely run and pass?

Just watched the whole game again on TV and it backed up exactly what I thought leaving the ground last night....that we played fantastically well for 75-80 minutes against the team that will win the Premier League by at least 8 points. We went toe-to-toe with them and could quite feasibly have drawn or even won that game with a bit of luck ( or a least the benefit of the bounce now and then).

The first two goals were totally avoidable but dictated the way we had to play the rest of the game....first one was poor from Jagielka and the second was offside. The third showed what happens when it's not your day....9 times out of 10 and that touch from Seamus would've taken the ball out of play for a corner or cushioned it into Howard's arms. the fourth took two deflections in rapid succession from Jagielka and Distin, and the other two were midfield errors that you rarely see from our team....McCarthy not tracking Ramires and Besic trying something a little to flash. I know it's all ifs and buts, but we won't get that much going against us in the next 10 games never mind all in one.

Our approach play and general control of possession after the first 10 minutes was very good, our goals were very well finished and that save from Courtois off Mirallas was stunning, as was the link up between Eto'o and Seamus.

I thought Naismith was fantastic all game. his movement and willingness to do the donkey work was commendable and his finish was top notch. likewise, Mirallas had a really good game.

Okay, we were on the wrong end of a beating when you look at the score line, but there were a lot of positives.

I'll go as far as to say two things after yesterday - our defence will improve (maybe it will need changes at CB.....Stones in for Jagielka for me personally), and we will absolutely beast someone soon.
Oh, and Eto'o will compliment this team, especially in tight games.
Hard lessons learnt. good times ahead.
