Thing is though you can still be club captain if you get dropped because you're out of form. Even if Martinez wasn't willing to do that you'd imagine, as captain, Jags himself would speak to Roberto and tell him straight up that he should be looking at other options. As captain, you'd want what was best for the team, correct?

lads, wonderful game although a dissapointing result. we showed some beautiful stuff in attack. Problems in defence will be sorted i have no doubt about that. i dont think jags and distin are only ones to blame, think we werent agressive enough in our defence. they had too much time innit, it will be sorted. besic had a howler and will be teached in the showers by milkman.

we are in good hands, no panic. bring in the deadline day. bring it.

The reason the centre backs and the centre mids had a mare is because every other player on the pitch was a committed attacker (arguably even the fullbacks). They were hopelessly outgunned after an hour as they have been in the previous two games. You can't expect those two lads (especially when one is 33) to compete against a midfield five.
For next week he cannot play the Naismith role and two out and out wingers, it leaves us hopelessly light when we have to close people down). Losing Barkley and then Pienaar really fcked us, but I'm sure he'll readjust for the next game.
And at least Etoo looked the effing business. Absolutely top class

couldnt really get on yesterday, but delighted to sign in and see lots of reasoned opinions and no kneejerking!

I thought we were hugely impressive in character and attacking. Every player took responsibility to push us forward with more urgency after the horror start. Even Jags who obviously had a nightmare was trying to pass to feet rather than hit and hope which is normally his go to when under pressure. Distin carried out if defence a lot and McCarthy ran with the ball whilst Barry did a few smart turns in possession to open up a more positive passing option. Showed that when they want to pile the attacking pressure on they can be close to the best in the league, not quite the best but I was very very impressed.

Kev was absolutely crucial in us getting up off the floor in that first half and as much as i have my criticisms of him he played like a Tim Cahill....a real Everton captain who wasn't going to down easy even if his defence and midfield were intent on handing goals out like leaflets outside a metro station.

James McCarthy I absolutely love but yesterday was his worst game in the blue. From start to finish he was a yard short of pace and was directly responsible for two crucial goals at a time we had them on the ropes. Thankfully this will be a rarity in his career at Everton.

Unfortunately a shakey Jags performance like that is less of a rarity but not enough that I would panic over him. I think he will start against WBA and I wont be worrying when he does because Im confident he will be part of a swaggering and impressive winning team.

I think we will see some activity on Monday to shake the hangover after this freakshow of a game.

Love you Everton xx

Would start Eto'o over Lukaku and I would like to see Besic get a decent amount of time on the pitch; give him a chance to put his misdemeanor behind him.

Only read the last 2 pages but glad to see that lots of the fans are as blinkered as the Management seems to be. Jagielka has been out of form for at least a season and even on form offers very little (nowadays) other than a good shot blocker. Conversely Distin played fairly well, certainly played his heart out.

A lot of our seasoned professionals and those who influenced last season have yet to get into their stride inc. Baines, McCarthy & Barry, the old cure was time on the bench, a reality check .. over to you Bobby. There seems to be a malaise in the squad at the moment that is worrying, a distinct lack of cohesion and I wonder how much of this is down to an out-of-sorts skipper.

Lower Bullens y'day, first time ... brilliant atmosphere.

Watched the game, and two MOTDs what a cockup. We gifted them 2, perhaps 3 or even 4 goals. Have to hand it to Chelsea forwards TBF they were able to take advantage of our blunders, We did have some luck though, really Howard should have got a red!

Our CBs were all over the place but also where is Barry and Mcarthy. Some positives from the game though, Mirallas was good, Naismith keeps getting in there and Eto'o looked sharp and took his goal well. There goals were fortunate but ours wee well worked at the end of the day the stats just show 3 - 6. It is hitting the net that counts.

I'm beginning that Jags is beginning to pack in, far too slow, indecisive, elements of fear in his play yesterday (looked like he was bricking it in the tunnel before the match) if he doesn't improve quickly, how can the club move forward with him as captain and CB, he just aint been the same since world cup + we had our highest consecutive number of wins in Prem League history when Jags was injured last season and stones came in. Not denying that he's been excellent and gave his best in previous seasons but his performances in the last few games have been too dodgy.. Stones in... + Galloway in soon
