Europe Thread 25/26

Something in the Athletic yesterday about qualifying for Europe would have us in trouble with the different calculation of PSR for UEFA competitions. I'm not a subscriber so dont know the full story.

My suspicion is that these Everton-friendly client hacks are doing the bidding of someone somewhere.

UEFA rules calculate at 70% of revenue while our new rules would be at 80% (?) of revenue.

Which has led to Chelsea and Villa having fines for entering champions league (?) and breaking the UEFA spending rules while being well inside the Premier league rules.

Something like that.

I cant see them throwing the book at Everton. In any case, what would be the ramifications / punishment?

The PL rules for next season will be 85% of squad cost, where UEFA have it at 70%, plus they still use a running multiple-year PSR. So we can be below the PL threshold but above UEFA. Villa, when they broke the UEFA rule for a 2nd year running, were fined 6m. I believe last year, as their ratio was worse they were fined 9m.

The Premier League will have at least five teams in the Champions League next season after securing a European Performance Spot for the second straight year.

The extra place was confirmed on Tuesday as Arsenal beat Sporting 1-0 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.

8 English teams will be in Europe. Just depends if city or Chelsea win the Cup then it goes to 8th in the league.

If forest win the Europa league there's another spot. So Europe goes to 9th. Then it's down to 10th if Forest and Palace win in Europe. It could go to 11th if all the above happen and villa or Liverpool fall down the leagues and win in Europe.

So basically a good chance it goes to 8th then a chance it goes to 9th. 10th and 11th very unlikely.

Impossible to go to 11th.
Palace and Forest winning would mean they get the spots from 14th and 16th places. No effect on the top 8.
Villa and Forest are in the same competition so both can't win it.
Best case scenario is Villa finishing 6th and winning the Europa and City winning the FA cup. That may knock it down to 9th as top 6 would have CL and then 3 more euro slots after that.
