Europe Thread 25/26

Moyes spent £179m at the start of the 22/23 season and this was the table after their first 26 games in the Lampard/Dyche season.

He did get them to 40 points in the end & won the Conference League but it wasn’t straightforward for him.

And we spent over £100m last summer on relative tat currently a few points shy of CL places. Seasons can go either way.

I personally think Moyes is a good manager at making the best of what hes got, but his issues are primarily in being allowed to chose his players. Thats a good example of that. His expensive transfers have rarely worked out, instead hes gotten more traction from the less expensive lesser valued players he makes better.

Its not a pretty transfer history post-ManU, and he(and us) would be best served by someone else being the primary decision maker on transfers. Right now we are challenging for Europe with pretty much Kevin Thelwells squad, with only 1 of our 9 new transfers playing.

I think if we let someone else make this summers decisions, he can lead this team to the CL.

I’d agree that Moyes is a good coach but his main ability transfer wise is with proven experienced players (which are expensive with little resale) or players requiring some sort of rehabilitation such as Arteta, Pinnear, Lingard, KDH, Grealish. It’s unfortunate that he refuses to work with a DOF.

I didn’t bring it up again..

(But what about Wolves though?)
We played a team that on paper was easily good enough to win. It's not like he played a bunch of youth team players. Every one of those players bar Dibling has played a significant number of minutes this season. And we probably had a deal with the keeper that he would play in the Carabao cup.

I've done the Premier League predictor and have us in 10th at the end of the season but very tight between 7th and 12th. Incidentally I have Arsenal winning the league by 1 point!!

I think they get round that a bit by creating that role for footballing strategy or whatever its called. I think this window will be similar to the last, you will see a few 'Moyes' signings and a few 'TFG' signings, just have to hope the TFG ones can make a bit more of an impression next season.

So… if it wasn’t the players… who was it?
