The race no-one wants to win – are Everton serious top-five contenders?
The fight for Champions League football appears to be turning into one no-one wants to win, but have Everton snuck into the race?
Lose a place if villa finish 4th though, and that's looking likelyUEFA have confirmed that the team finishing 7th in the Premier League this season could qualify for the 2026–27 Champions League if:
Aston Villa win the Europa League and finish 5th or 6th in the Premier League
Liverpool win the Champions League and finish 5th or 6th in the Premier League.
sensible call but if we make champs league?Conference League plz

I’d be happy with the Conference, or even the Europa League, but I wouldn’t complain if we got CL, like…Then we get bummed
I'm genuinely convinced that a big factor in the Reds blowing that half a billion in the summer was because of our new stadium opening. They're sweating in the same way that United were when City started putting sky blue Welcome to Manchester billboards up all round town when their march started. Like United tho, Lpool will learn that you can't turn back the tide.…..they won’t want the status quo disrupted, I’ve alway believed our aim is to be the best team in this city.
It sounds very parochial but I just think if we achieve that then things will look after themselves.

Whilst I'm hopeful we can close the gap (or even leapfrog them in the league on the odd season), I can't see a future where we dominate them the same way City have dominated United. They still have a modernised 60k stadium and they'll still win stuff. We still have PSR to contend with. City were on cheat mode and were backed by an actual petro state.….i’m reminded of an interview with a financial scholar when our build was getting underway. Ironically, he was a big RS fan and he was firm in the belief that the new stadium could catapult Everton above them to the very top level.
I agree, but when it comes to their “modernised” stadium, I’m reminded of when I drove past Anfield with my youngest a few months ago. I pointed it out to her and she screwed up her face and said, “what THAT is Liverpool’s actual proper stadium?! Not very good compared to ours is it?!”Whilst I'm hopeful we can close the gap (or even leapfrog them in the league on the odd season), I can't see a future where we dominate them the same way City have dominated United.
