Europe Thread 25/26

…..not the easiest run of league games, especially if the manager is under a bit of pressure;

To be fair, if we do somehow make it past the ownership quagmire, the referees and the inevitable Liverpool FC tantrum to actually qualify for the Champions League, I don't think we get bummed in the league stage. Newcastle were fine in that this season, and even Spurs were 3rd.

I think we'd be competitive ;)
Think we would do fine in the league stage myself. Also would be able to attract better players in the summer. I would be happy with any European football tho.

If we finish 5th and RS finish 6th then multi club ownership will become a massive issue..

And look at how poor Newcastle’s PL season has gone for them by their recent standards.

It would be somewhat embarrassing to be in a competition called the Champions League having finished 7th in the league and not won anything. Even worse if directly because of the success of Liverpool

I agree, but when it comes to their “modernised” stadium, I’m reminded of when I drove past Anfield with my youngest a few months ago. I pointed it out to her and she screwed up her face and said, “what THAT is Liverpool’s actual proper stadium?! Not very good compared to ours is it?!”
On the pitch is where they'll struggle most....
They're potentially losing konate for free and one leg has looked distinctly average this season and want fetch a fee to replace him...

Salah looks a shadow of the player that almost singlehandedly won them a league title (although he may get them an arab tax fee)

None of the expensive strikers they've bought have looked ready to take on the role of a world class forward...

In midfield they're still using Curtis 'do you know who my cousin is laa', Jones ffs

And the fullbacks? Lol kerkez and a lad who was supposed to replace tory trent but is actually worse in defence to the point hes being played on the wing

sign some full-backs and a decent striker and we'd be away.

I was actually wondering if playing counter-attacking in the CL might not suit us better than trying to get around some minnow's low block..

In any case, if by some miracle we do spawn it in there, we should definitely invite Pierluigi Collina as guest of honour to the first fixture.

Who is his cousin?

Obviously you wouldn't turn it down, but I'm not sure CL qualification would be a good thing for us (not that it will happen anyway).

We wouldn't win it. I'd much rather qualify for a tournament we'd have a semi-realistic chance of winning, rather than struggle to get out of the groups of.

It's a double-edged sword in a way because you'd be able to attract better players if you're in the CL, but you're effectively saying that it's a trophy there's pretty much no chance of winning that we are in and I don't know about anyone else, but I would take any trophy at all now.
