Europe Thread 25/26

If anyone told me, with 8 games left, we'd be 5 points behind the champions, who've spent over £300m improving their squad, with us having average strikers and only 1 half-decent fullback in our squad, I'd have told them to keep taking the tablets.
And if they said we'd also do it with Keane instead of Branthwaite for most of the season, I'd be calling them some names. NAUGHTY NAMES.

I must have missed this half-decent full back you mention. Has he been injured?

I can see us holding Arsenal to nil and getting one ourselves
Not sure if it's plain old overconfidence just because we've won 2 on the spin but funnily enough I can see it. They're heavily reliant on set pieces, we are a fairly well drilled defensive side with big physical players and are suited to having less of the ball. Should've got something off them in the home game as well being denied a stonewall penalty, even when we were far from our best that night

It is over confidence. Man for man they are levels above us. Table don't lie at this stage of the season. They are going for the title and will be at 100%. On the flip side, we don't play on paper and it's a funny old game. Hope you are right.

Just reading that if we were to get europe and made it to the quarter finals at least of the competition, we would get:

Europa League: 25% increase in revenue compared to last year
Europa League: 18-20% increase in revenue compared to last year.

This equates to around £40m and doesn’t even factor in the increased revenue from
the new stadium compared to Goodison.

As such, it seems to blow the theory that it’s too soon out of the water especially when we are moving to squad cost ratio now where every penny in counts.

If we can get any european competition, the extra games meaning more income at home, prize money from uefa and prize money for finishing 7-8th compared to last year is huge and probably equates to a couple of quality signings in the summer.

All that doesn’t even factor in that we will probably be able to get the likes of Malick Fofana that we couldn’t get last year without europe as an incentive

Great to be looking at the euro equations rather than the relegation maths.

It'll be interesting to see where we are in 3 games time, it feels like we are 4-6 pts short for 7/8th finish currently given the home games we have played and our run in, but as others have said we seem better against the teams you wouldn't expect so here's hoping 😉

So 1-5 =-4 champs league, 6&7th= Europa (if cups won by top 5) and 8th = Europa conference ? what happens if English team win any of the European trophies this season? 8th is surely gettable as is maybe 7th?
