Europe Thread 25/26

I'd just written out a dead long post about effects on Everton if 4 of the 5 Premier League teams exit the Champions League at this stage in terms of 5th place still being a Champions League qualifying position.

Seems English teams are miles clear in the coefficient table so even if all 5 teams went out, it wouldn't impact qualification this season.

It's certainly 5 Premier League sides in the Champions League next season.

We basically need to hope one of City, Chelsea or Arsenal win the FA Cup to ensure that Europa League spot is moved to 7th place in the league, with 8th then being a Conference League spot.

If we finished 7th, I could stomach Liverpool winning the FA Cup even.

I don't really want to see us in that crap Conference League though as it would impact our league performances too much and the payoff financially and in terms of satisfaction (hardly much fun winning against some Bosnian 4th division side) isn't big enough.
I disagree. We could win the Conference League. We haven't a prayer in the Europa League. Plus, the Conference League is so weak that we could manage the squad to some extent in that. A season in the Europa would mean greater strain on our currently limited playing resources. That said we need to be building a squad that can cope with Europe regardless in the summer.

When the time eventually comes, this is my big worry.

"Beto and Barry will do".

I want to be in the best euro competition possible but i wouldn’t turn my nose up at the conference league. We’d hopefully be one of the favourites to win it which would also see us in Europe the season after. I just want the trophy drought to end.

Out of interest would there be any effect if Villa were to finish in the Top 5 and win the Europa League at all?

Or conversely if they were to finish 6th (Europa) and then win the competition this year meaning they qualify for CL?

Not sure on the first one but the second option would mean the Europa spots would move down to 7th and 8th. Conference 9th

I am between two stools here.

As ever, I hope EFC win every game we play and in doing quality for Europe.

I don’t even mind the Thursday night home games as I quite enjoyed going the game when we were last involved in Europa League.

On the other hand I dread to think of the demands it will make on our limited squad and its effects on our league form.

Two stools or two turds :D - get your point though our squad is thin as it is now ...

I had thought they had changed that, and now they would first just qualify for CL being in the top 5, with no extra spot being given. I know it used to be how you described, but I thought I looked it up this year and they now only give out automatic births to the champions of the Europa/Champions League if they fail to qualify by league position.

Yes I also enjoyed the Euro games but that was when night matches were quite rare . Seem to recall there was no ale in the ground because of FIFA rules ,is that still the same ?

Getting into Europe is the only way of not having that stupid ambulance chaser name attached to our stadium and also ensuring the stadium is covered on tv alongside the city of Liverpool skyline and River Mersey. Just for that reason there should be no one arguing against securing a spot.

It's there to be taken.

“there’s others also who want it”
