This is all very valid, the "immigrants are putting tremendous strain on our country" agenda has been peddled by a large portion of the media, the UKIP and the anti-immigrant/eurosceptic faction of the conservatives for a very long time, but on balance, it is clear that free movement of people has contributed more to the country than it has cost.

Immigration is not an issue, it is a benefit. Uncontrolled immigration is the issue.........

Give us the oncost of immigration on housing benefits, tax credits, child tax credit which the latter is paid even if they go home?

Would be more interested in data on the number of business owning immigrants, and the number of people they employ.

Y'know, like Easy Jet. (Not a clue if he was an immigrant mind, might just be based here for all I know).

Migration will still happen if we leave the EU as we have a skill shortage ATM so what's wrong in a visa based card for movement?
Why is that so wrong having control of immigration?

Dont think it is wrong per se, but if it secures free access to the EU for trade, imo, that is of far greater benefit than the cost of free movement.

Like I have said, over and over, I voted Stay with little enthusiasm.

Treasury minister Jim O'Neill claimed that figures were not available (February 2016). Convenient really as the real figures show very clearly that immigration benefits UK taxpayers. Independent studies show contributions of £3bn in taxes as against£0.5bn in benefits paid.

Child benefit payments abroad is always flagged by those with a negative view of immigration, yet at £27 million it accounts for 0.0004% of government spending.

Even the Office for budgetary responsibility concede that UK plc would face severe labour shortages without the immigrant workforce that exists here.

The 'immigrant' related misinformation generated by the right wing media over recent years is nothing short of disgraceful and so counterproductive to our nation's well-being, economically and socially.

Then it's down to the negotiations you can not be in the single market per say but you can trade in it with common sense agreement outside the EU it's as simple as that Blair and Peter Mandelson and Clegg are worrying about their EU pensions !

The oncost of immigration are not recorded though as I mentioned!

It's also wealth distributive in that they contribute to their home economies through the results of their labours here. That should be encouraged, the stronger the weaker/less resourced countries of Europe become then the stronger Europe becomes as a whole.

I like this view and despite voting Brexit actually have a lot of sympathy with the "no borders" people (I always thought that the logical extension of Mrs Thatchers views would have been for her and the world to allow a complete freedom of movement and immigration across countries that would regulate itself: When a country got too crowded people would stop wanting to go there).

It's just that I would rather the freedom of movement to include all world citizens and not just fellow Europeans who don't really need to move in the same way..

Maybes ifs and buts.

Thats my whole point. We just do not know.

Whereas a few weeks ago, we did.
