In a serious moment ...

In business, I've defo been a beneficiary from the UK being in the EU, it's opened up many a door, and still is doing ( I'll likely be in Athens next week ).

Freedom of movement wrt employment has also been of huge benefit to both our kids who have, and in one case still are, working in the EU, but, purely from an economic viewpoint the CAP is a hideous waste of money. Within it's subsidies it has some benefits which can't be measured purely by cash, but even so, it's a drag on EU policy and while it might be tweaked, it seems unlikely to ever be properly reformed.

Putting aside all the rhetoric about EU workers, sovereignty and the like, if I'd voted Out ( though I didn't ) it would have been because of the CAP.

They tend not to call it the CAP anymore, they like to refer to it as the Preservation and Management of Natural Resources............all nice and cuddly ......

Really forced by the EU to sell there ports

do you really want to be dictated too by a EU union who either rip you off if you are doing well or screw you if you fail?
Economic crisis Joey, you sell all of your assets.

Greece put themselves in this, the fact they are now selling their own assets to make some money so they have some money to pay the bailouts (without which the country would be in bits) is hardly "the EU forcing them to sell their ports".

Of course I don't have a problem with the news, I called it good news earlier in the thread.

My comment relates to how the deal was achieved, what was offered, what might other car manufacturers expect, is it sustainable?

Without these answers it is impossible to judge whether this is indicative of what other businesses will decide or was it just a one off?

All legitimate questions for which we need answers to judge the Government’s response to corporate concerns over Brexit.

Nissan is obviously great news - having said that though we are at least 2.5 years from actually leaving (which everyone seems to forget on both sides).

That's the point that it may longer be advantageous for the likes of Nissan to use U.K. as a bridge into the European market. Time will tell, but at the moment we have no idea.

But maybe the plan is to devalue the pound that much that's still worth it for them.

We would have been in the same mess if we had joined the Euro?

No Joey, as the Pound is worth more than the Drachma ever was.

£1, even now, at it's lowest for now, is roughly 1.05-1.10 Euro.

1 Drachma was 0.003 Euro when they switched over. They were in the hundreds/thousands bracked of "old money" that Britain's never had, wanted to switch over, borrowed big.

Had Britain switched - no need to borrow, in fact, you'd end up (on paper, has to be said) having more money than before, or at worst - the exact same amount.

Then why have we printed money quantitative easing?

I know what he believes and I know what he wrote. He just didn't answer the actual question, and nor did you.

Why are you being so sycophantic ?

Hiya Pete

Work ruled my life today, so I wasn't able to respond in time.

Sycophantic? You have it all wrong.

He answered your question as clear as the light of day, but for some reason you are choosing to be obtuse. You are far too smart for to not see that he addressed why he feels free movement includes trade and people for him. I honestly don't know how he could have made it clearer in that post.

I have not even expressed my opinion on his his opinion BTW...I am only a bit frustrated that you poo pooed a detailed and clear answer to a question which you said @The Esk didn't answer. He did, in fact, answer it. Either reading comprehension is an issue for you, or you cannot connect to the dots between the points he made and the word 'trade'.

I know reading comprehension is not your problem...you do quite well on the ale. I think you are being obtuse on not connecting the obvious dots...mostly because: @peteblue is to the conservatives and Brexit as @davek is to Roberto Martinez and his ability as a manager.

I would have much rather seen you make your argument about his thoughts on why he thinks the freedom movement of people is equally important to the freedom movement of capital, goods, and services (also known as trade).

Instead you chose to take the 'he never answered my question' route.

This forum would be so much better on these sort of discussions, if point scoring wasn't the aim.

Anyway mate...I will be sound asleep when you respond (if you do). I'll read it at about 15:00 (your time) tomorrow.
