That seems utterly alarmist clap trap if I am honest.

Like London decides to become a charter city, under one company, and is seperate from the Met, the NHS, HMRC, etc etc?

The free port thing has been a thing for ages anyrate. This move literally changes where taxes/duties are collected. Thats it.
Don’t disagree that it appears to be OTT.

Taking the case of London ‘tho, that’s apparently the model. City of London, which is separate to the Met for policing and many other governance rules.

A very selective and narrow date range is used for the statistics quoted in the article. No doubt on purpose.

I also hope that whoever leaked this clearly restricted security document to a newspaper is found and prosecuted. Yeah, as if.

Almost four in 10 Channel migrants are from Albania, where there has not been a conflict for a quarter of a century, a military intelligence report reveals.

The document, marked “official sensitive”, shows that almost three times as many migrants arriving in the UK from France came from Albania than any other nation.

The report, seen by the Mail on Sunday, reveals that of the 2,863 migrants transported by nine separate people-smuggling gangs between June 1 and July 12, 1,075 – or 37.5 per cent – were Albanian.

It's a major no-no taking an OS document out of a controlled environment as you might well guess. By writing that you are disseminating an OS document is proof enough that the author and publisher know that they too should be liable for prosecution too.

Yes, but it's not like we could be self sufficient in energy and limit exports of oil or gas from these shores to ensure are needs were met at a reasonable cost because we're not part of a union of other nations that would stop that.

Not sure if its an EU thing. Just how we can now hold our MPs to account. Or sommet.

It's perhaps also worth noting that 70% of French electricity comes from nuclear, so they have more control over the energy generated within their own country than many counties. I wouldn't use German energy as an example for anything either tbh as they don't have any form of price cap and have been wedded to Russian gas for so long that they've hamstrung the European response to the Russian invasion.

Point is, energy aint a central EU thing. At least, I dont think it is.

Generally speaking no, but I believe there are significant plans afoot to make the grid more connected across Europe to therefore make it easier for energy to flow from areas with a surplus to those with a deficit. They've set a target of 15% interconnectivity by 2030, which is fairly modest, but a start.
